Default Blu Ray will never make it!

I don't really Know much about the technology that sony is pushing. But history repeats itself! Sony pulls this stuff every time! They create this great tech but it's always more expensive and not to many other companies back it up! Oh, and the HD DVD will win for one reason and one reason only PEOPLE CAN PLAY THEIR OLD DVDS ON THE NEW HD PLAYERS! that's it! Sure Blu Ray will be around for a little bit but in the end the harcore audiophiles won't be able to hold that market up it's going to come down to the average consumer!

you cant really say anything now cuz they are comming out with ps3, which uses bluray technology. This brings it back up. And i also recall that bluray wasnt designed for video playback, but instead for data storage. So i can agree with you for blu-ray not being successful, but only for the part of their video player. anything other than that, you are 100% wrong.

Blu-ray disc for North America has been a playback machine from the start.
The BD-rom specification proves this.
Chances are when Blu-ray hits the U.S. they will have a player only and a player/recorder.

I back Blu-ray because of the huge worldwide industry support it has, and I worry that two competing formats will be bad news for us.
On the other hand competition always brings lower prices...

I think Blu-ray will do well IF they do it right.
I have nothing against HD DVD I just don't think currently it stands a chance.
This isn't David vs. Goliath it's more like Iraq vs. the U.S.

Ok, so Blu Ray is more powerful! it's not going to matter!when the HD DVD players come hit the stores the average consumer is going to go up to the salesmen and say.

AC: "So with this Blow Way thing i'm not going to be able to watch all the DVDs i've bought with in the past 3 years!"

SM:"Ya but the picture is going to be better with the new disc! And you can still keep your old DVD player hooked up!"

AC: "That is a load of crap! I just upgraded to the whole DVD thing just about 3 years ago! Who said that if I buy this blue player thingy there is going to be something new coming out in the next three years! I'm just going to wait till they make a player that can play all the new discs and also play all the old ones too!"

SM: "Well there is something called HD DVD that is coming out soon and it will be able do everything you just said!"

AC: "Really well this is great i'm going to get that!"

So as you can see maximus you have to shift your view point to the average consumer! We are not them! They aren't on these forums all day like us! I mean it would be cool if Blu Ray stays around and finds its way in a niche hardcore audiophile market but I don't think that is going to happen! Because it's all going to come down to how many movies you are going to be able to play on the new player! How many movies are out with support for Blu Ray? Not many! And when HD DVD launches it's library is huge just because you can play your old movies on it, and ever so slowly more and more movies are going to start supporting HD DVD! Once they stop making fullscreen DVDs, HD DVDs are going to fill that void!

maximus, i see your point. Most people want an all-in-one devices, not two different ones. I am one of those people. I truely would purchase an HD DVD over a Blu-ray, but that doesnt mean the blu-ray will fail. With many people that loved the ps2, i am sure they are willing to advance to the ps3. This isnt like gamecube where they used a different thing from everyone else and just fell.

However, that above statement cant be proven to be true since there is also a rumored xbox2 that is allegedly suppose to run using HD DVD. I believe that upon this new xbox's release, the ps3 will slowly go down in sales unless they are willing to reduce its price like what nintendo did to their gamecube.

So maximus, right now, dont assume blu-ray will fail because betamax or whatever failed before. With ps3 supporting blu-ray and hopefully nice kick ass games that will come out exclusively for ps3, blu-ray can be successful and people will slowly adopt to the new format.

sonicularulus just because PS3 is supporting Blu Ray does not mean people are going to eventually adopt the Blu Ray format! I think it will hurt the PS3 in the end. ALL THE NEXT GEN SYSTEMS SHOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY NORMAL DVDS OR THEY WILL FAIL JUST LIKE THE GAMECUBE! Most people that are buying the systems are people that are in college and living in dorm rooms who don't have enough room for a DVD player and a PS3 they will won't both in an all in one! And I won't to know were you heard that PS3 is going to have Blu Ray tech. in the system! I've never heard that consedering it's going to be backwards compatiable with PS1&PS2 games which are DVDs! Also playstation sales have declined drastically while XBOX sales still go up! I'm betting that The XBOX will win the next console war!

Perhaps this will clear up the confusion, with Blu-ray anyway;
http://www.blu-raydisc-official.org/...data/bda04.pdf

Both HD DVD and Blu-ray will play cds, dvds, this is a fact.

PS3 will be based on Blu-ray technology, this is a fact.

The successor to the X-box will be HD DVD based, pure speculation and far from fact.

There is no doubt in my mind that the next-generation game systems battle will be intense, but history has proven there is always room for two.

A word of advice stash. Before getting all excited and shooting your keyboard off in here how bout you actually do something novel like researching your facts.

Sony announced months ago it had created a single optical head for blu ray, dvd, and cd.

Xbox will be hd-dvd. PS3 will be blue ray. I still say it will all come down to the movie studios. If movie studios favour blu ray and refuse to produce movies on HD-DVD its all over. And vica versa
