New device, trying to view Netflix Blu-ray discs, and while watching No Country for Old Men, first it flashed black a few times, then the picture cut out entirely.
going to the menu i was able to navigate back and pick it up where i left off. a little later, it happened again, but this time all remote control functionality of the player disappeared. (running time clock on the device continued to progress, though.) ejected disc, was unable to get the home screen or play the disc. next day, i put in There Will Be Blood and it booted, started playing. so i ejected it, put NCFOM back in, and it played as well. got almost to the end before it took another sh*t. this time, putting in the other disc didn't revive the player. anyone got any leads on this? are faulty discs capable of screwing with device functionality, or is it definitely a defective player? |

The 1st thing I would do is make sure you have the latest firmware. If that doesn't take of it then return the player.

These studios just do not get what the term "standards" mean and they have been using various versions of Java for the BD-Java. We know they are changing the copy protection, but they need to get unified on ONE version of Java to limit incompatibilities for anything other than copy protection purposed IMO.
That NCFOM disc is not a new release and I think it came out long before your player was released so it should play properly in theory. I do remember that disc caused a lot of problems with multiple BD player when it came out though. As Mytime said, you need to update the firmware and that should solve the problem.

Try clearing the memory. Setup>Others>Initialize>BD Storage Clear. I don't own the player but that is the method with the BD300 I do own.
There is a long thread at AVSForums on this player that may discuss the problem you are having and I recommend reading there before taking drastic steps if you have been happy with features and performance. If the streaming features are important to you, the feature set is among the best. Other than prompting a download of information from the internet by using BD-Live, I can't think of any way for any given disc to create problems for a player that continue after the disc is removed.
