Default Insignia Wireless BlueRay; bad experience

I bought this unit last Sunday for $129.00 at BB. Setup was easy until I tried to connect it to my router. I spent 3 hours on the phone with Belkin (router) and 2 hours with Insignia. One company blamed the other as no one wanted to take fault regarding my connection issue. I decided to take the unit back to BB. Well, they ran out. I asked the manager if I can get the Samsung 1600 (BlueRay wireless) unit for $129.00 (reg: $149 on sale). They accepted. BUT I had to buy the Samsung adapter (not included) whereas the Insignia had one built in the back. So I ended up paying 80 bucks more. Got this unit home and it connected to my router with ease. I am very happy with the samsung thus far.

I wouldn't have bought the Insignia or Samsung BD player if you wanted wireless. Your best bet would have been a PS3 or the LG BD390.

I absolutely agree. The Insignia's are made by Desay, a Chinese manufacturer who uses Samsung boards and chip sets. Samsungs are known to be very problematic.

Good info to know since Samsung BD players are something I could never recommend and now that includes Insignia as well.

At least not recommend them until they get contracted to use other chipsets. The thing is, the old Insignia models "we" (I have since quit BBY and moved to California to become a deputy sheriff) had were very robust players that played pretty much any disc we put in them. The jury is still out on the new ones.

Instead of that Glock in your avatar. Since you have now moved to law enforcement.

Ah, I thought you were referring to Sig P225/6 or the P250. The S.O. issues the Glock 22 to all deputies. The Glock 27 (my avatar) will be backup. I don't mind the Glocks. They've always shot well for me. I also like the Springfield XD.

I've not been a Glock fan due to a bad experience. The Springfiels XD is a really nice pistol. My P220 is a tried and true weapon. As is my 1911 and my recently acquired Jericho or more commonly known as the Baby Desert Eagle, my current favorite. As you see I am a .45 fan...the flying sledgehammer.

Well, I pretty much have to go with what the department issues. Especially as I enter the academy soon (bye bye HDF and life for 6 months). Eventually, if it gets green light by the higher brass, I'll be able to choose a new service firearm if I'd like.

But I digress...

Lots of Insignia stuff is made by either Funai, Samsung, or LG. Some of the Insignia stuff is also from the same suppliers to Vizio (some of the LCD TVs are identical to Vizio models). The contracts change every year though.

Wouldn't it be nice if they published or advertised which manufacturer made/produced a particular Insignia or for that matter Dynex model...rhetorical

When I looked any Insignia or Dynex up in the system, the suppliers were any of these:

Top Victory
Desay
Funai
Orion
SDI (Samsung)
LGE (LG)
Apex

And a few others that I can't remember. But that gives you an idea.
