Default Which is better deal on BR Player?

I have the option to purchase a Sony DB360 for $149.95 or a Samsung BD1600 for $144.95. Which is better deal or should I look at another brand?

The Sony is better as they actually provide fast/current firmware updates to play the new release titles with changes in DRM or BD-Java. Samsung has a history of providing them late and buggy too. I refuse to buy a Samsung BD player based on their history of poor support.

Get the BD360 IMO.

Definitely the Sony 360 since Samsung players have had FW problems in the past.

A third straight vote for the Sony BDP-S360 over the Samsung BD-P1600. With Blu-ray, firmware updates are very important and Sony does a great job, the best in the industry in my opinion and Samsung is the worst. I own players from both companies. That is a nice price for the Sony player.

Default Sony

I'll chime in for Sony as well. I couldn't be happier with my PS3.

I own both a samsung and sony and my samsung has become a high priced dvd player for a spare room due to the fact that it is a POS. Can't believe I am saying this but get the Sony

Samsung has had the most different models on the market and that probably has helped create their inability to adequately keep up with firmware. Just from memory, there have been the following:

BD-P1000
BD-P1200
BD-P1400
BD-P1500
BD-P2500
BD-P2550
BD-UP5000
BD-P1600
BD-P3600
BD-P4600

There have also been equivalents of some of the models using a different model number for specific retailers and of course HTIB models including Blu-ray. Performance when the disc loads and plays properly is comparable to Sony and Panasonic players but I would guess about 5% of discs I tried in my Samsung BD-P1200 never loaded and a few loaded and played with issues. I have seen a couple not load in my BD-UP5000 so both of those are sitting in the closet waiting for firmware that probably won't ever come, the focus has to be on the several current models. Samsung has certainly hurt itself in the eyes of many of us. A half dozen different models properly supported would have sure been a far better idea in my opinion.

Don't forget the BDP-1590 and 1600.

1600 is on the list and the 1590 is just a different model number for the same player as I mentioned in the following paragraph.

Default End Decision.. Surprise

I appreciate all of the thoughts and inputs.. As I was headed to get the Sony, the salesman offered me a Panasonic DMPBD60K for $130. New in box.. Never Opened.. Full Warranty.. It was his last one so I took it.. Hope I made the right choice but at that price and based on my needs, it should fill the bill...
