CDs in Blu-ray players

Anyone have an opinion on the sound quality of CDs in BD players?

Maybe the question should be applied on a player-by-player basis?

If you use a digital connection, the player is just a transport and the receiver does all the processing. The player only gets involved if you use the analog outputs. And, yes, it's a player-by-player comparison.

My PS3 does just fine. And, it has the added benefit of a 80 Gig hard drive, so I have saved my favorite CDs into it's memory. Now I don't even have to fool with loading the physical CD any longer - just pull up the PS3 menu, select my CD from the memory and play. And to think of all the trouble I went to back in the '50's just to play a 45...I actually had to get up out of my chair, go over to the record player, turn it on, put on the 45 adapter, put the record on the turntable, and cue it up. Then I had to get up again after playing my record and turn the thing off. Now I never have to leave my seat. Geeezzz....No wonder Americans have the biggest butts in the world ..........

I certainly have not compared all BluRay players, but I have used the Sony 350 and Pany 35. My CD players have been a Carver CT490 and a Marantz DV6600 DVD player. Both bluray players could not match the Carver and Marantz for soundstage, imaging and the ability to deliver a crisp, clear performance without being overly harsh at time. The Carver, which used tubes in the output stage did noticably better job with harsher recordings, like many modern pop music recordings. BR players like the Oppo, and I would guess upper end models from Marantz, Pioneer and others would handle CD music very well.
