I don't know why some people get paranoid about the updates. I never had a problem with any of the updates for the ps3 or even my stand alone player. in fact for the most part.. they made some improvements.

Thing is, 3.01 fixed some of the 3.00 problems for many users.

Because some people had problems when they did the update.

If you never had a problem then it would be hard to understand why some are nervous about doing them, but once you do get a problem you change your POV about them.

Luckily I have not had a problem myself.

So you have an original launch PS3 and you have no issues at 3.01?

That is good to know, but I doubt it is bull.

Thanks!

Weird that in this forum there are not many people saying they have had a problem with their last update or after it, but in other forums there are several folks saying their PS3 either froze up or just quit working and Sony wanting $150.00 to fix the problem. Now I don't own a PS3 so I am just thinking out loud here but so soon after the "Slim" model comes to market the older machines take a dive shortly after an upgrade?
Yet around this board it appears to be a non issue.
Very strange.

One thing we must consider is how the update was accomplished...over the Internet, from a USB connection, from a disc? There are warnings all over the place that if you turn off your power or anything disturbs the download that you will be in deep trouble. Did all the people who say they have had problems observe this warning?

I bought a new slim and it was several days before I could get an Ethernet hub to get that connection going. I waiting until then to check updates because my guess is that Internet updates are the most reliable. I downloaded 3.1 and have had no problems with the player at all.

Just bought a slim last night and think I'll hold off on updating until Sony figures this thing out.

I have 3.00 with a 40 GB PS3 and have played several BDs with no problems whatsoever. I will wait for something better than 3.01 before I update again though.

I have a 60gb, and a Slim.. I updated the slim last week to 3.01, and I haven't had a problem with it(Watched blu-rays and played games on it).. I did hold off on the 60gb, just for the fact it's out of warranty and I don't want to take the chance with it.. Don't feel like sending sony 150 bucks to fix it..

I've got a slim and 3.1 and no problems. Been playing Saints Row 2 quite happily for over a week now. Bluray movie played fine the other night as well.

I have a 60gig Ps3 which has never given me a problem from an update. It seems like this update nonsense comes up pretty regular.
