the ending scene in Paris. I couldn't figure it out and me and a couple co-workers of mine discussed it and couldn't figure it out either. What was the significance? That it can happen anywhere? Is there some sort of symbolism for terrorism here? None of it made any sense to us. . .
Spoiler:
I don't think there is much deeper meaning to this film.

Here's my take: Imo the film is about the end of the world as we know it, armageddon, 'earth' is getting rid of the humans. But Night isn't using the usual huge explosions, asteroids, earthquakes etc., but simple plants (= 'nature') who are doing the killing. Nature's revenge on mankind for centuries of abuse.

The events in the North East of the U.S. were the last warning: If you don't change your ways, humans, this is what will happen. Obviously nothing changed, symbolized by Mark and Zooey having a "normal" life after the events, as if nothing happened. Hence: Worldwide extinction, starting in Paris. The End.

My thoughts on the end

Spoiler:
I agree with some of Nikopol's theory on some of it. But I had a different take Glow. I don't feel its an end of the world movie. It was a movie directed at respecting are environment. Before the Paris scene the news stations are going on how no one believed that this was the work of the plants. They were convinced that because it only happened in the North East that it was a isolated government experiment gone wrong.

I new exactly what was going to happen after they had the new's scenes showing that people didn't believe it was the work of the plants. Bingo the plants decide to strike another Country to prove it wasn't an isolated incident and that people need to show more respect to the environment.

There were no previous signs of warnings from the plants prior to the suicide spree in the North East. So how can there first warning be there last warning? I believe Paris is the last warning to not mess with mother earth.

I finally saw the rest of this movie and I liked it myself. I thought it was a different kind of movie like most of Night's movies are and they are either hit or miss. The 6th Sense was a definite hit for me, but Unbreakable was a miss for me and a letdown to me. Ditto for The Village as another miss, but Signs was a hit for me.

I think he is just one of those follywood types who either hits it long, or strikes out, and which happens is different for many people. It is the nature of his "different" kind of movie IMO. But there is no right/wrong answer on whether it was a good movie or not, but rather just personal taste.

Does anyone else think they gave Legiziamo sedatives for this role?

I've never seen the guy that mellow.

I believe Lee was also in both "Hulk" movies. He was also in "Mallrats", discussing love, comics, and The Thing's genitals with Jason Lee.

He was of course in Iron Man, where Downey confused him for Hugh Hefner from behind...

I liked it, but thats only because my expecations were extremely low after Lady in the Water.

My main problem with the movie was the 'twist' ending was revealed way too soon. They mentioned Toxins and Plants in the same sentence about half way through the movie.

I have seen all of Shyamalan's movies and liked them all, some more than others, but this movie was terrible. Although I didnt like Signs the first time I saw it either, I watched this one in the theater with my wife and couldnt wait for it to end so I could get out of there. The plot was pretty much impossible and the acting was abysmal. Maybe I will have a different opinion after seeing it a second time but as for now, I say rent it-dont buy it.

One a side note-Mark Wahlberg- how do you keep getting work? Every movie I have seen with him in it, he plays 3/4 of the movie as if he is out of breath (anyone else ever notice this?). Thats fine if his character has just been running or something but he goes way over the top. He shouldve just ended with his best role -Boogie Nights.

Yeah, but I think he was asking about cameos in the comic films...unless I'm mistaken?

100-percent agreed, especially with Wahlberg.

If you want to see a really messed/scary movie then pick up Quarantine when it comes out. Little more believeable and a lot creepy the "Cloverfield type" of filming was a very well executed in it.

I thought wahlberg was fine, perhaps it was his role you had a problem with? He wasnt suppose to be Tom Cruise War of the Worlds if thats what you were looking for. I mean really he was talking to a plant.

Donny...

You're not Mark's brother are you? LOL...Just Kiddin'...

Seriously though, it's beyond him just talking to a plant, which just about anyone with a pulse could have done...his acting was just...wooden and one-dimensional with horrendous dialogue delivery...they should have had an on-set coach for him...

I mean, remember the scene when he's talking to the cops, or firemen, whoever they were, or the train people at that train station? They're like "We lost contact..." and Wahlberg's like "With WHO?" like with his eyes all wide as if a second grader was being told Barney was coming into their class with a basket full of apple juice bottles and gingerbread cookies...it was a ridiculous delivery.

He seemed like he was "whining" through his lines, and I'm not sure if anyone else picked up on this...
