![]() Title: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) BD-50 Dual-Layer Disc Video: 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 Audio: 5.1 Dolby TrueHD Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 Subtitles: English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese Run time: 103 minutes Studio: Paramount Home Entertainment Rating: PG-13 Region Coding: Region Free Player used for review: LG BH200 Cast/Crew Info: Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller Alan Ruck as Cameron Frye Mia Sara as Sloane Peterson Jeffrey Jones as Ed Rooney Jennifer Grey as Jeanie Bueller Cindy Pickett as Katie Bueller Lyman Ward as Tom Bueller Edie McClurg as Grace Charlie Sheen as Boy in Police Station Ben Stein as Economics Teacher Directed by John Hughes My take: (the breakdown) It was sad to hear the John Hughes had died last year, but his legacy will live in on through his wonderful teenage rebellion driven films. Ferris Bueller's Day Off was one of his best works in my opinion and thanfully it was done right with this Blu-ray release. Ferris Bueller is your typical 80s high school senior who hates school and just wants to do what he wants. When he wakes up to a beautiful day in his home town of Chicago he decides to fake a stomach ache so that he can skip school. Of course he has to fool his parents and the school with the help of his best friend and girlfriend. What ensues is a day of worthwhile risks and old fashioned fun. If you appreciate the late John Hughes' work then this is a must own. This title was 23 years old at the time of its release last May and does look like it. Colors are properly saturated for the most part, but they tend to look rather flat and lack any sort of pop. Flesh tones are accurate since we all know that the three main actors are naturally pasty white. Grain is moderate during the entire run time and is particularly noticeable in backgrounds. It does remain consistent however and I was happy to see that there was DNR involved. Fine detail is a mixed bag with this release though. Some closeups and even wider shots are amazingly detailed, but many shots have that distinctive softness that was inherent to 80s films. This is not a great presentation, but it is certainly much better than any previous version on home video. We get a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track that is more impressive than the video presentation. Dialogue is clear, concise, and well prioritized even during the louder scenes. Surrounds are used when they should be and are used for various effects and the film's musical score. Your sub will get some work during a few choice scenes, but the LFE does sound particularly weak. However, I was rather impressed overall considering the age of the film. If you bought the last special edition version of this on DVD then you have probably seen all of these supplemental features. There's no commentary (and there never was), but there are several making of features totaling about 70 minutes or so and a photo gallery. Unfortunately, all of the above features are presented in 480. Movie: 8/10 VQ: 7/10 AQ: 8/10 Supplements: 5/10 Final word: A Must Own As always thanks for reading folks.

I agree and this is certainly one of Ridley Scott's films that needs a new remastering and a Blu-ray release. This was also the break out film for Tom Cruise and this was one of Tim Curry's best performances in my opinion.
