Directed by Guy Ritchie

I pulled a Guy Ritchie double feature last night since I had never seen Lock, Stock...or Snatch before. I felt that Snatch was on par with Ritchie's previous film. The story follows an assortment of characters and their quest for an 84 karat diamond that is worth millions of pounds. Also, there's a pikey named Mickey who turns out to be an extraordinary boxer. Turkish expects for Mickey to make them all a lot of money, but Mikey has to follow the rules and get knocked out in the fourth round or Brick Top will probably kill them all. Of course Mickey is most unstable and unpredictable element in the film and without subtitles on it is extremely hard to understand his speech. The story concludes in a convoluted mess much like Ritchie's other films, but he does it a rather witty fashion that makes it entertaining from start to finish. This is worth a purchase for fans and a rental for most everyone else. Due to excessive violence and language this one or any other Ritchie film is not for children.

I was actually pleased with this Blu-ray transfer in the majority. The film is now nine years old, but it really doesn't look it at all. Colors are intentionally muted, but they are well saturated. Flesh tones seem to be washed out, but I would imagine that that was intentional as well. Grain is moderate and manages to stay consistent throughout the entire run time. Fine detail is very well done on both closeups and wide shots. I would imagine that this looks loads better than Ritchie's first film because of the increased budget.

We get an extremely aggressive 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track that is extremely bass heavy and that's the way this type of film should be. Dialogue is clear and well prioritized and never had a problem comprehending what was being said. Surrounds receive a lot of work from the action scenes in the form of gunshots, the musical score, and other discrete effects. Your sub will get a good amount of work during the action scenes and seemed to pack more punch than with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Again, I am sure the increased budget probably helped as well.

Unlike Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels we get an average supplemental package with this Blu-ray release. We get an audio commentary with Ritchie, a 24 minute making of feature, five minutes worth of deleted scenes, three TV spots totaling nearly two minutes, two different trailers for the film, and finally the MovieIQ feature is also included with this release. Everything above is presented in 480 with the exception of the film's theatrical trailer, which is presented in 1080.

Movie: 7.5/10
VQ: 8/10
AQ: 8/10
Supplements: 5/10
Final word: A Purchase For Fans

As always thanks for reading folks.

You're quite welcome L2W. I enjoyed it as well, but I don't think I'll be buying it unless I can find it and Lock, Stock... for less than $15.

This is a classic movie but I don't think I'll be upgrading to blu.
The quality of this movie is in it's characters not special effects or cinematography that utilize high definition. I'm sure it's better all around on blu-ray though and would definitely be worth a purchase, but not an upgrade.

btw, I think even an Irish gypsy would need subtitles to understand Mickey's accent.

Yeah, much of Pitt's speech is downright impossible to understand without subtitles.

The characters in the movie couldn't understand either. It's all these funny character traits that make Guy Ritchie movies fun to watch. Every character has some kind of exaggerated personality.
