My take: (the breakdown)

The only reason I decided to rent this movie was because Jeff Daniels stars in it. I was actually rather surprised at just how moving this film really is. The story follows that of Arlen Faber, a popular author of a book entitle "God and Me", which answers many of life's questions that people have for God. When we are introduced to Arlen it is time for the 20th anniversary of his book that is cherished by millions of fans. We find that Arlen is a recluse and doesn't much like the company of any people whatsoever. When his back goes out he forced to visit a new back pain doctor down the street from his house. What he doesn't expect is just how much he begins to like her and her seven year old son. Arlen begins to realize what's really important in life and that being recluse may not be the answer to his happiness. I say this is definitely worth a rental and maybe even a purchase for those that will thoroughly enjoy this film. Due to offensive language please be mindful of younger children.

The video quality of this new release Blu-ray title from a smaller studio was about what I was expecting. Colors are slightly muted, but do retain their saturation during most of the film. Flesh tones seem to be slightly pale sometimes, but this could have been intentional. Grain is moderate, but it does remain consistent even in the darker areas of the presentation. Fine detail is actually quite good and never noticed any shots that were softer than others or that were out of focus. Magnolia has done a fine job with this Blu-ray transfer in my opinion.

The Answer Man is virtually nothing but dialogue, but there are some scenes that see some music. Dialogue is clear and understandable throughout the entire run time and I never had to adjust the volume on my receiver. Surrounds are mostly silent except for a few discrete effects and some music. You might as well forget your sub having anything to do for this title as well.

The provided supplemental package is rather weak, but that tends to be the case with the smaller studio releases. We get an audio commentary with Hindman, a rather short making of feature, and some deleted scenes.

Movie: 7/10
VQ: 8/10
AQ: 8/10
Supplements: 4/10
Final word: A Purchase For Fans

As always thanks for reading folks.

I will have to add this to my queue also. One to watch with the wife since it sounds like her kind of movie.

Thanks!
