Title: I've Loved You So Long (Il y a longtemps que je t'aime) BD-50 Dual-Layer Disc Video: 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 Audio: 5.1 French Dolby TrueHD Aspect Ratio: 1:85:1 Subtitles: English Only Run time: 117 minutes Studio: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Rating: PG-13 Region Coding: Region A Only Player used for review: LG BH200 Cast/Crew Info: Kristin Scott Thomas as Juliette Fontaine Elsa Zylberstein as Léa Serge Hazanavicius as Luc Laurent Grévill as Michel Frédéric Pierrot as Capitaine Fauré Claire Johnston as La mère de Juliette et Léa Directed by Philippe Claudel My take: (the breakdown) Note: There is also a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track that is dubbed in English, but Kristen Scott Thomas does did do her own dubbing for her character. This French movie was released onto Blu-ray in March of this year and I must have overlooked it, but it was probably because it is a French title. The story follows that of Juliette Fontaine as she is released from prison after 15 years. When she is released her sister, with her husband and two adopted children, offer that she live with them for a few months until she can obtain a job. The viewer does not know why she was in prison until about a third of the way through the movie and it turns out to be because she murdered her six year old son. Now until the end of the film it is never revealed how or why she killed her son and we don't know if it was even intentional. This film is really a character study of Juliette as she struggles to make sense of life after being in prison for so long. This one is worth a rental, but due to its length (common of French films) I wouldn't blindly purchase this one. For a new release I was not blown away by this transfer in the slightest. Firstly, colors are intentionally muted causing most colors to look washed out and even gray looking. Flesh tones also seem to be a bit on the pale side, but maybe that's because everyone is French in the film except for Thomas. Grain is moderate, but it is consistent except during the very brief darker scenes. Fine detail is hit or miss depending on the scene, but in the majority is definitely favorable. This transfer doesn't look great, but it does get the job done. This movie is purely dialogue driven and there really is nothing else to speak of. The dialogue is at least prioritized in the center channel. The only thing that makes it out of the front channels is some instrumental guitar music that plays on occasion throughout the run time. Other than that there's nothing for the surrounds to do. You also might as well save the electricity and turn your sub off since it has nothing to do. We get a rather meager supplmental package with this Blu-ray release. We get five minutes of deleted scenes with an optional director's commentary and the film's theatrical trailer. At least both features are presented in 1080. Movie: 7/10 VQ: 7/10 AQ: 7/10 Supplements: 1/10 Final word: Worth A Rental As always thanks for reading folks.
