My take: (the breakdown)

Cutthroat Island is sort of a guilty pleasure for me personally ever since I saw it in theater at age 14. I know that it was bomb at the box office, much like Waterworld around the same time, but I still enjoy it nonetheless. The story follows Morgan, her uncle Dawg, and her partner in crime Shaw as they all try to get reach the treasure at Cutthroat Island first. I would get more into the plot, but it would cause some spoilers to surface. Is this movie hokey, cheesy, and downright unbelievable? Yes, but that's what makes it great. This is worth a purchase for fans and a rental for people who missed it in the past.

For a movie that is now 14 year old I was absolutely stunned by this Blu-ray presentation. Colors leap off the screen like it was released this year. Grain is extremely light as well. My only complaints are that flesh tones seem to lean a little towards the red/orange side too much and some of the wide shots seem rather soft. Other than these two minor point Cutthroat Island looks great.

I will warn all of you to not watch this title if people are trying to sleep. We are given a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track that will shake the walls regularly. Filled with sword fights, musket fire, and explosions this audio mix will certainly get your attention. The surrounds are used consistently along with the sub. Dialogue can be hard to hear especially during the first part of the movie, but that's all I could fine wrong with this mix

Well, since we are given a lowly BD 25 disc we get shafted on extra features. We get a commentary from Harlin, a six minute featurette, and two trailers. Of course the above features are presented in 480, imagine that.

Movie: 7/10
VQ: 8.5/10
AQ: 9/10
Supplements: 2/10
Final word: A Purchase for Fans
As always thanks for reading folks.

I paid $9 for Cutthroat Island on BD and $4 for Waterworld on HD DVD so I don't feel guilty either.

I'm beginning to like all the big price drops and bargains for BD's lately, especially the $5 and $7.50 walmart boxing week specials.

Quick question if your still looking at this thread! Does the search function work at all in this forum? I put in key words and nothing ever comes up. Trying to get reviews on "Sunlight" and "Rogue"
