Default My take: Crank 2: High Voltage

Title: Crank 2: High Voltage
BD-50 Dual-Layer Disc
Video: 1080p/AVC MPEG-4
Audio: 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio
Aspect Ratio: 1:85:1
Subtitles: English and Spanish
Run time: 96 minutes
Studio: Lionsgate Films
Rating: R
Player used for review: LG BH200

Cast/Crew Info:
Jason Statham as Chev Chelios
Amy Smart as Eve Lydon
Dwight Yoakam as Doc Miles
Directed by Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor

My take: (the breakdown)

Ok, let's face it both Crank movies are absolutely fictitious, crazy, and downright wacko. However, the first Crank movie had an original idea for the plot, but this sequel just seems to be a rehash with a slightly different story. Chev Chelios (Statham) has mysteriously survived his several thousand foot fall from a helicopter. He soon finds himself being operated on and it is heart that is being stolen for some old 100 year old Chinese crime boss (the late David Carradine). So Chev has to race throughput the movie and track down his heart before his artificial heart gives out. To keep his artificial heart going he has to keep it electrically charged, which creates a lot of dumb/exciting moments. Anyway, I'd say it's worth a rent, but don't run out and buy it. Also keep children away from this as the gore and language is rather liberal.

For a modestly budgeted movie I was quite impressed with this Blu-ray release. Colors are extremely vibrant and really pop giving that three-dimensional feel. Flesh tones are also accurate. Fine detail is spot on as you can see every facial hair and bead of sweat. Grain is almost nonexistent except in a few darker areas. My only complaint is that the some of the contrast overblown during much of the outdoor filming and whether it was intentional or not it can be slightly distracting. This looks about as good as the first installment overall.

The only thing that can describe this 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track is 'whoa!'. Everything is perfect. Dialogue is crystal clear and never hard to understand. Your surrounds and sub will be working overtime for this title as well. This is definitely a reference audio track from Lionsgate.

We get a slew of extras in this supplemental package. We are given two different commentaries, a 51 minute making of feature, a 4 minute mistake feature, a 2 minute gag reel, the film's trailer, and a digital copy on a second disc that is compatible with all portable devices. The best thing is that all of these features are presented in 1080.

Movie: 6.5/10
VQ: 9/10
AQ: 10/10
Supplements: 7/10
Final word: Worth a Rental

As always thanks for reading folks.

I loved Crank and Crank 2 is just as action packed and crazy.

And thats where the problem is. Its exactly like the first one but less memorable. 90% of the characters are even the same, 90% of the scenes are alike. In fact I think I would have rather watched Crank again rather than watch the sequel.

I wouldn't say fresh air. In my opinion Statham's best movies have been the Transporter franchise.

But do they mimic the scene where Chev and AMy Smart's character are getting busy over a newspaper machine in the middle of public....Classic!

Crank 2: High Voltage - WOW !!! This movie was probably the funniest thing I have seen in a very long time. Great fucking movie. I gave it a 4 out of 5. It’s full of some great camera work, over the top humor, and some unforgettable characters. if you have 1 hour and 30 min and want to be entertained like never before please rent this movie and dont blink becasue this movie moves at a lightning fast pace and it works !!

by the way this Franchise is 100x better than the Transporter movies. at least this movie makes great fun at what Transporter tries to take serious and that just makes it look like some low budget crappy action movie.

This felt a lot like a stale version of the first movie. Entertaining, yes. good, no. It was just a little too "much" compared to what i was expecting. I'm not gunna revisit this title anytime soon.

Very similar to my mode of thought on this one as well.

I really enjoyed Crank for what it was. Crank 2 felt like rinse and repeat which unfortunatley isn't a good thing as Crank 1 was only IMO so good because it was so fresh and just in a different direction to anything else at the time.

Shame both these movies have great PQ and AQ, but are lacking a critical good story line. Although I though Crank was a desent movie, it just wasn't a "wow" movie. Looks like Crank 2 is no different.

Thanks HD Goofnut.
