Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut

PLOT: Ridley Scott's better of his two era pics (the other is Gladiator). Kingdom of Heaven, or KoH, is a story of a black smith who lacks faith in god on the verge of being forced to fight in the crusades. The smith learns of his noble blood and his place besides the king of Jerusalem. He also learns of God's will for himself.

Overall, the Directors cut runs almost 3 hours and 20 min. Which is ~40 min more than the theatrical version. The movie is mostly talk and characters interaction with each other. There are a few quick fights/ action bits throughout the movie, but they are not what this movie is about. There are beautiful visual scenes and moments of intense conversations. The movie's final chunck is a 30+ min long battle, the siege of Jerusalem, which feels like part of a Lord of the Rings movie.

A buy for fans. A rental for others on the basis that its longer than most can sit through. I proudly put this next to my regular cut DVD. 7.5/10

VQ: 9/10 - this was an early bluray benchmark disc. Still looks good. Crisp edges and vibrant colors. There is some grain at parts, but it remains minimal. Its length allows you to forget about its flaws and really admire its awesome visuals.

AQ: 8/10 - all the speakers get a workout and sounds clear. There are a few moments that go from quiet to loud suddenly. they made me scramble for the clicker to turn it down a notch or two.

Extras: 1/10 - a 1080p trailer is all there is. good to look at, but not enough to cut it.

I came up with a similar conclusion when I reviewed this title. Good review.

To add to my review. This movie has low replay for me. Once a year type of thing, but when I watch it I enjoy it each time.

I certainly want to see this. I caught 20 minutes of it at the pub of all places and it looked interesting. Was a horrible low bit rate DTV broadcast though. Can't wait to see it in all it's high definition splendor!

One of my favourite movies. Not as good as Braveheart but better than Gladiator imo. Ridley really dropped the ball when he approved that atrocious theatrical version. This movie should have been getting awards left right and center.

I like it so much if they ever decided to re release it with an AVC encode Id buy it again even if the difference is minuscule.

Going to pick this up for Blu-ray, thanks for the review. Been looking forward to seeing what the full version is like, haven't seen it in DVD format, seems to be quite hard to find in England.

Still waiting for them to release Braveheart on Blu-ray here
