That was an awesome movie, I don't understand everyone's negativity about this.
The performances were great, the writing was spot on, and the direction was very satisfying. Some spots near the end rely too much for the casual viewer to THINK, but otherwise, I don't see why they should have too much trouble finishing this film. Why is it that when a Western comes out with feeling and emotion that rely's more on character relationships than it does on the ever longing final shootout, that the genre's fans abandon it completely? And why is Russell Crow's character a total phsycopathic mass murderer? Who says he gets cured? He's going to ESCAPE again, it's one of the reasons why he agreed to let Dan take him to the train. Dan's kid pretty much nails Ben on the spot when he says he's not all that bad, and the only time you get a clear vision of Ben being bad is when his biggest naysayers come after him, or when he tries to make himself look tough in front of the kid, or his dad. Truth be told, I didn't like the apache scene much either. But as a plot vehicle, it worked fine enough, and it's probably the lowest point of the film.

I purchased this Blu-ray as blind buy. I watched it using my PS3 last night and it played perfectly. I will put in my Samsung BD-P1000 as soon as I think about it, just to see if it loads and appears to play properly. I have already read reports that it does play in the BD-P1000 so I expect I won't observe any issues. Of course without playing the entire film, I won't know if the player has some issues playing it.
As far as the movie, it is a loud violent western and the story is preposterous. Without having read anything about it, I had expected the violence, but had also expected more realistic action and characters. I like mind numbing nonsense as well as anyone, but I need to expect it going in to not be continually thinking, "now why would that idiot do that?" or "that is not possible". After it was over, I only thought it was ok and not worth owning. As is normally the case for Blu-ray, it does have lossless surround audio, this time uncompressed PCM. Chris |

It loaded fine with my BD-P1000 and I skipped around some and everything appears fine. As far as I know, my BD-P1000 plays all new releases.

Having had the BD of this film sitting in my Netflix queue forever I had to switch it to DVD to get it faster. Upconverted on my A2 it looked just fine. Now, having seen the film I'll probably buy the BD to get an expanded soundtrack.

The movie was decent, but the PQ and AQ was great. The AQ was powerful and sharp. Overall, this was a good movie, but not great.

I watched it last weekend on Sd dvd (my local Rogers video didn't have the BD copy, damnit). I liked the movie. I have since bought the blu ray version, but have yet to watch that copy, although I did try it briefly to see how the PQ was (looked good)

First off the AQ was amazing I really loved the Audio in this film, The PQ was on par but I expected as much being a highly touted BRD and all..
The actual movie for me was meh, it was good but not great. I think the acting was really the saving grace for this film. AQ:5/5 PQ:5/5 Movie Itself:3/5

You should definitely see The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford then. It's much better and it's available on BD. The picture quality isn't outstanding but the movie is excellent. More of a moody drama than a western but a western all the same. I was gonna review it for the forum but decided against it since I've got a soft spot for anything about Jesse James. A bunch of Missouri James Gang stories have been passed down 3 generations in my family.

, I personally thought it was like a docu-drama type of thing so it turned me off to the movie altogether.. The Blu Ray section for reviews on HDF is thin for how many BR supporters HDF has.. The more movie reviews the better imo

A few review sites say this suffers from overzealous Edge Enhancement. Anyone who has or has watched the disk care to comment?

Watched it last night; this is a good western, although the area they call "Bisbee" looks nothing remotely like the town of Bisbee, or its environment. The Apache scene that has all of you riled up is perfectly plausible; for a small group of scouts to create havoc. I think it lacks the impact of the original, but Crowe and Bale are stellar.
Had no issues in my Samsung BDP UP5000
