Face Off Blu-ray Review

Just been watching this, so I thought I'd give you guys a heads up on what the Blu-ray version of Face Off is like.

I'm sure most people who would be interested in this film already know what it's about, so I'll just be breif and say that it's basically exactly as the title says. A cop and a bad guy have their faces switched to try and infiltrate a bomb plot, however it all goes horribly wrong, with plenty of typical John Woo action and also a lot of exploration of the implications of such a plot. Gripping stuff imo.

The film looks nice, very nice in parts, however you just can't escape a loss of detail that is prevelant throughout the film particularly on facial images, and they could really do with going back to the original negative to remaster this.

Overall - Definitely a solid/above average presentation, but could also have been so much better. It is also definitely superior to Paramounts HD DVD release though which due to the noise reduction etc looks less detailed than the Buena Vista transfer.

On the audio front the film has a solid soundtrack and this is shown off beautifully, the film features 5.1 Dolby Digital, or Uncompressed PCM, meaning again, superior to the HD DVD version.

Extra Features are a bit slim on the ground, we have the Theatrical Trailer, a "Movie Showcase" as Buena Vista have chosen to name their trailers at the start of the disc, Blu-scape (I still havn't really figured out what this actually is lol) and "seamless menus" though I wouldn't call them a feature.

Overall, it is a fantastic film, and this Blu-ray presentation is actually superior to the US HD DVD release put out by Paramount in both Picture and Audio quality and to top it all off for those of you in the US, Buena Vista havn't region protected this release, so you can import it without fear from Amazon.co.uk where is it currently part of our 3 for 2 and works out at $35 + postage.

If you love this film and have a Blu-ray player, you owe it to yourself to import this title! Especially if you don't own a HD DVD player.
