![]() Title: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) BD-50 Dual-Layer Disc / 3 Disc Set Video: 1080p / AVC Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Aspect Ratio: 2.39:1 Subtitles: English, English SDH, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Cantonese, Indonesian, Korean, Mandarin (Simplified), Mandarin (Traditional), & Thai Run time: 136 minutes Studio: Sony Pictures Rating: PG-13 Region Coding: Region Free Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man / Peter Parker Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors Denis Leary as Captain Stacy Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben Sally Field as Aunt May Irrfan Khan as Rajit Ratha Campbell Scott as Richard Parker Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson C. Thomas Howell as Jack's Father Jake Ryan Keiffer as Jack Directed by Marc Webb In 2002 Sam Raimi brought us Spider-Man and his vision, although entertaining, was never exactly what I was looking for. I am not saying that Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man is exactly what I was looking for either, but it is slightly more faithful to the original comic. That being said I'd still rate them about the same as they both their share of strengths and weaknesses. The story of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man is one of the most well known tales in the comic book world. As a child Parker sees his genius father and caring mother die in a plane crash. He always knew that his father was at work on something extraordinary that would change the scientific world. It isn't until several years later that Parker stumbles upon his work that he understands what it was that his father kept so secret. Parker discovers that his father worked with a Dr. Connors on some cross-species genetic testing. Then of course this 17 year old nerd sees his life gets turned upside down (literally) when he is accidentally bitten by a genetically enhanced spider at Connor's laboratory. Of course what follows for Parker is super strength, sticky hands and feet, and the ability to use a strong web like material. Parker embraces his new talents, but when a menacing foe threatens the entire New York City population the kid must quickly grow up and become the city's only hope. I thoroughly enjoyed Webb's take on the legendary comic icon with The Amazing Spider-Man. It's similar to Raimi's interpretation in many ways, but at the same time has plenty of original elements. My only complaints are a slightly stale script at times as well as being about 15 minutes too long. If you're a fan of Spider-Man there's no doubt that this one belongs in your collection. Due to sustained violence this one is not suitable for younger children. Presented in its original 2.39:1 aspect ratio The Amazing Spider-Man blew me away from start to finish. Colors are crisp and well saturated with flesh tones remaining accurate. Since Spider-Man was filmed digitally grain is practically nonexistent, which gives away for an extremely vivid and clean presentation. Fine detail is absolutely stellar. The things that are visible are incredible such as the individual seems in Spider-Man costume or the details on the buildings in Manhattan. My only complaint is that there are a few softer shots thrown into the mix. However, I am confident these were intentional and so I will not deduct any points of the picture quality score. My own screen captures from The Amazing Spider-Man can be found below. The Amazing Spider-Man arrives on Blu-ray with a fantastic DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. Dialogue is always well prioritized in the center channel is audible even during the film's several intense sequences. Surround usage is used regularly whether it's ambient noise or the film's musical score. Thankfully, the score is never overbearing, which is always a plus in my book and can be a potential problem with a action titles. The LFE really comes alive in the action scenes so be prepared for a workout for your sub. As I was expecting everything about this mix is just perfect. Spread across two discs The Amazing Spider-Man comes loaded with extras. The features disc contains a feature length audio commentary with Webb and his producers. It's an informative commentary that explains the choices that were made during production as well as how they wanted to connect more to the comic. Disc 1 also contains a Second Screen feature that works by synching your wireless device with your Blu-ray player. Disc 2 is where most of the goodies are to be found as the main feature is a 110 minute seven part documentary that will answer every question you have about the film and probably more. Next up are 16 minutes of deleted scenes, a 39 minute Pre-Visualization piece, and stunt rehearsals. Rounding out the extras are an art gallery, Image Progression Reels, and a three minute look at the video game. A DVD copy is included on a third disc and there is also an Ultraviolet Digital Copy code insert. Movie: 8/10 PQ: 10/10 AQ: 10/10 Supplements: 8/10 Final Word: A Must Own

I dont get it. I guess some of you actually never kept up with spidey comics, but I should not be surprised.
Raimi and Tobey was a cheese fest, lot better chemistry with Gwen and Peter vs Peter and Mary Jane. Also dont forget the fact Spidey 3 was 10 pounds of crap in a 5lb bag.

I agree that Spidey 2 was a damn good flick.
Tobey never became the smartass spiderman, that he actually is. Webb got that right in his first movie. And I also can't get past the web slingers vs shooting webs from your body, almost as bad as batman nipple suit. Ive even heard people ragging on how skinny he was. Hell, he is skinny, he does get beat up, he does bleed. Spiderman is strong, but he's like batman, he doesnt always win on strength, he wins on brains. I also was bugged by the fact the green goblin was a damn mask. I shouldnt say Raimi's are bad, because they arent. I just liked Webb's first outing better.
