My take: (the breakdown)

Rick Grimes is a deputy sheriff for a town outside of Atlanta, GA and when he is shot in the line of duty he falls into a coma for several days after being sent to the local hospital. When Rick awakes he discovers that the town has been overrun by an unknown force and he soon discovers that that force is a unknown number of zombies or walkers. After returning to his home Rick is convinced that his wife and 9 year old son are alive, but he just has to find them. With the help of other survivors he encounters he'll need a lot more than luck if he expects to find his family alive. This is probably one of the best series on TV right now and I encourage everyone to at least rent it. Due to violence and some brief gore this one is not for children of any age.

Filmed using 16 and 35 mm cameras and presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio The Walking Dead limps onto Blu-ray looking about the way I expected. The transfer is definitely above average, but it is certainly not reference material. Colors are well saturated, but are slightly muted to coincide with the post-apocalyptic setting. Flesh tones seem to be accurate if not slightly washed out. Fine detail is top notch for closeups, but suffers slightly in some of the wider shots. There are some softer shots especially during some of the night scenes, but thankfully unresolved blacks are never a problem. For a TV show I was extremely pleased with this high def transfer.

The Walking Dead comes equipped with a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD that gets the job done and then some. Dialogue is always clear and concise even during the outdoor sequences. Surrounds are used for various effects although there were a few missed opportunities for additional usage. The LFE is strong and pronounced with gunshots packing quite a punch throughout all six episodes. Like the video quality this is not reference material, but it sure is top notch for a TV show.

The provided supplemental package for The Walking Dead is actually rather decent. The main feature is a 30 minute making of documentary that is rather interesting. The documentary is followed by several shorter making of features that cover everything from makeup, how to act like a zombie, and various interviews. All of the features are in 1080p and located on disc two of the set.

Series: 8/10
VQ: 8/10
AQ: 8/10
Supplements: 6/10
Final Word: A Must Own

As always thanks for reading folks.

Are you sure about that? A quick google and it looks like DirecTV offers 160HD channels and Dish is over 200HD channels. The only channel I can think of that isn't in HD is IFC and they suck anyways.

I think that 200 includes all of their Pay-Per-View channels and I believe Dish has more of those than DirecTV.

Great series. Who would've thought that one day we'd be watching a TV series about zombies that was as moving as it was terrifying.

Does anyone else shout at their TV when they watch this? Here are some of the things that were yelled at my TV during S02E02

"OMG, shut the f*** up, there's a damn zombie right there!"
"Holy crap you're an idiot, learn how to run without falling"
"75 zombies just walked past you, and you're going to go shoot one of them? Smart."
"For god's sake, eat the little girl to make her stop screaming!"
GLOW likes this.

You should just skip ahead to the 3rd season, a lot more action and less braindead characters. It's still got some bad writing and annoying characters, but it's more fun to watch than the first 2 seasons.
