I'm buying a new samsung 1080p 40" LCD with 120htz. My current comcast HD box only supports dvi. I can upgrade my cable box that will include an hdmi cable. Should I rush out and update the box? I'm going to connect my ps3 via hdmi. Will I notice a difference between dvi and hdmi when connecting my cable box to tv? Since the HD channels are not broadcasting in 1080p I didn't think it would be necessary.
What do u think?

HDMI and DVI are exactly the same except HDMI carries sound as well. So knowing that, it should be a simple conclusion.
Did that help?

No, DVI and HDMI are the same video wise. HDMI also carries digital audio as well where DVI is video only.. There is some slight enhancements with newer versions of HDMI like 1.3a (B.S.), but not a factor yet and would not matter to you. You can keep your current box and get a HDMI to DVI cable and then run a seperate audio out to TV or receiver. Or if it is no additional cost, just upgrate to the HDMI box and run a single HDMI cable. It's up to you.
