Ok I just joined directv and they only hooked up our two tv's. The hd tv in the living rooms has the hd dvr. The kids room has a standard box. Now I am getting a nicer 720P lcd for the kids room. And I am going to move thier old cable ready crt into my room. My question is what is the cheapest way to accomplish this. Directv of course doen't know me or want to accomodate me with a simple swap of thier standard box (in kids room now) with what I need a standard or even another hd dvr. If I pay for hd channels I want to see them on both hdtv's. I don't want to pay them for a box that would've been free if I had the second hdtv in the house upon installation of the system. The third tv I am cool if I just get basic satellite on it, so I am assuming I can just split the cables with a splitter somewhere, and get the basic channels to the third tv?

You have 2 options for this. Connect the current HDDVR to the TV in the living room via HDMI. Connect new HDTV in kid's room to the HDDVR in the living room via Component cables. Granted with this configuration, you will have to watch the same channel on both TVs.

The other option would be to call Directv and ask nicely to upgrade your standard receiver to an HD receiver. If the first CSR says no, politely end that conversation and call back. You should get one that will assist you if you're persistant.

You will still need a Directv receiver for this TV.
