I was recently browsing bestbuy.com and I came across this High Definition Television tuner called the Samsung Over-the-Air Digital TV Receiver with DVI-HDCP Output model SIR-T451. I already have a High Def TV, so if I get this tuner, will I be able to watch HDTV right away?
Here is the link to the product: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6738355&productCategoryId=cat03022&type=product&cmp=++&id=1087341116542
If I get HDTV from DISH, then I would need another satellite because the one I have right now is not pointing the right way. So if I get this tuner will I be able to watch HDTV at no extra cost besides the $250, and no monthly fee?

You would still need to purchase an antenna (if you don't already have one) to pull in the OTA HD channels. Aside from that and the initial outlay for the receiver, no, there wouldn't be any additional monthly fees to watch HD programs OTA.

Check on www.antennaweb.org to see what channels are available in your particular location.

If you want to watch HDTV from Dish, you'll need additional dishes AND a new Sat receiver. The Sat receiver can also get OTA broadcasts. The T-451 is ONLY for OTA broadcasts.

Is it bad if only local channels show up on the antennaweb.com site?

Antennaweb deals only with locals. They don't deal with channels like ESPN-HD, Discovery-HD, TNT-HD, etc., which are provided only by cable and satellite companies.

So that means i cant get those channels by just using the tuner??

That is correct. The channels you would get with the Samsung tuner are OTA channels, as in NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC (again, depending on your location). Anything like ESPN-HD, TNT-HD, etc. you would only be able to get through a cable or satellite provider.
That's why it's caled a digital over-the-air tuner. All it picks up are OTA channels.

Keep this in mind: The receiver that DISH provides for HD also has an ATSC tuner built-in to pick up OTA signals. I don't know what the current offers are, but when I got mine I piad about $100 or so, of which they returned $49.99.
Of course if you don't want to pay the extra for the channels that DISH provides, then getting the Samsung makes sense. The DISH channels are $15 monthly, and you get 15 channels. At $1 a channel, it might be worth it.
