Hello again all,
I just picked up the Magnavox NB530MGX from WalMart for $98 on a total impulse buy; couldn't pass up the price. (Also picked up Planet Earth Blu-Ray for $40 FYI).
My HDTV is a Samsung LNT3242HX, 32" 720p set (which will also accept 1080i). Now I know people will say you can't truly appreciate BR on 720p, but you can't argue the PQ is loads better than any SDDVD.
My question is, even though I'm currently watching in 720p via Component, would I get any better picture quality whatsoever out of HDMI (colors, crispness, etc)?

I posted a similar thread a while back. I bought a 720p TV, and was watching movies off my xbox 360 via component. After finding out that only HDMI will upconvert standard DVDs, I bought a Blu-ray player and HDMI cable. I definitly notice a difference waching Bluray movies, but havnt tried any standard DVDs upconverted yet.
If your player will upconvert standard DVDs and you run an HDMI cable, it will look better. Your probably watching on 420p with the component cables.
forgive me if I am wrong on any of this, but I believe thats the general gist.

No, it is displaying in 720p via component, just as any gaming console does. Component supports up to 1080i, and is not limited to 480i/p.
With a little more viewing time and after watching Body of Lies and Madagascar 2 I'm actually convinced that any video quality improvement that would come from HDMI would have to be minuscule; the picture quality is nearly flawless through component as is.

You are correct. The only difference that may be important to you is the Blu-ray player will not upscale standard DVD's via component (meaning you will only get a 480p signal) whereas with HDMI it will upscale.

Got it, thanks!

When both component and HDMI are properly implemented, the difference in video is minuscule or indistinguishable is how I would describe it. The big advantage for HDMI in my opinion with my equipment, is one cable replaces up to 11 cables. Of course using component for video and HDMI for audio would mean only 3 cables are saved by using HDMI for both video and audio. I do prefer audio over HDMI compared to 6 or 8 cable analog connection, I actually prefer the results, but even then it isn't huge and mostly better because of ease of set up and processing advantages.
Some sources output and some displays accept 1080p over component, although I don't know if I have a combination that does.
