I think the Vikings have a very solid team but they will never go anywhere with Tavaris Jackson as he flat out STINKS!!!

WHY don't they grab Michael Vick :confused::confused: He would be a great fit in Minnesota & I would consider them the best team in the NFC with Vick & Peterson's combined blazing speed & ankle-breaking moves out of the backfield. Not because Vick is some great QB that would be the answer to all their troubles but he would be a HUGE upgrade at QB. And I think the Vikings are talented enough that they just need an average QB & they will be good to go. But if anyone thinks Tavaris or Rosenfels is gonna lead the Vikes to anything more than a .500 record they are fooling their selves imo as those guys suck.

Sorry Oblioman, but I'm afraid the Vikings are cursed... See, they have been my team since about 1966 or so. I'm pretty convinced that I am a jinx~ :crying:

Also, my youngest son is a Buffalo Bills fan, and who else has as many failed Superbowl appearances as the Vikings?!? Right, the Bills~ Like father, like Son...

Oh, and my older son is a San Jose Sharks fan. I would say that you could make an argument that the SJ Sharks are the Vikings/Bills of the NHL (except that they have never even MADE it to the finals, despite being perrenial "favorites" to have a strong showing)

So, although I haven't been a "die-hard" fan of the Vikes since the late 70's, I think I've probably cursed them for life~

Sorry about that~ :what:

Yup, me is old enough to remember (is that good or bad?)!! Can still remember the day what Dave Osborn (the real one) said about astroturf - "If the cows can't eat it, I ain't gonna play on it".

about anybody being good,,,,yup loaded with talent. Of course Peterson - Harvin - Berrian will be exciting. Anybody that watched the Gators knows what me be talking about when it comes to Harvin. As for a quarterback, Jackson should be named the starter. Put an end to any controversy. On top of that, he played pretty good ball the last 4 games of '08. defense speaks for itself. One of the best run stopping corps in the league. Secondary could use some extra strength, but with Winfield back and strong as ever to lead some of the new kids they'll be okay. Just need to pressure the other teams QB and it could be a great year for me Vikes.

TavarASS is the worst QB to wear a Vikings jersey since Steve Dils and Bob Lee.

My buddy's a Vikings fan and bought tickets for opening day against the Browns (we both live in Ohio). I've already told him I'm not going to spend $100 to watch this A$$HAT play QB and destroy another season like he did last year. 0-2 start, home loss to the Falcons that changed are playoff seeding chances, and the worst playoff game since Culpepper and company in 2000. He's a sub par back up at best, he starts we lose.

:offtopic YES, I do! I can't remember anyone other than Candy either. But I do remember it was a great comedy show that I watched alot as it came on here real late back in the early 80's I think or maybe even a little earlier.

OK, I just went & looked the show up & definitely see some familiar faces, Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty, & Eugene Levy who I absolutely loved in Armed & Dangerous with Candy. I thought that was a very funny movie. But other than Candy I never was a big fan of any of the people on Second City TV after they went on to other stuff.

please don't get mad at me anyone for going off topic I just hadn't heard nobody mention second city tv in years & wanted to respond to GW's post. Thanks :hithere:

Kam and I are going to be the most drunk depressed NFL fans this year.

I wouldn't be so quick to count any team out that has a veteran QB like Cincy & the Rams do. Maybe it'll be the Bengals verses Rams in the Super Bowl

I know that is a big longshot to see both of those two making it, but the NFL is crazy these days & I seriously would not be shocked if either one of those teams made it to play one of the favorites.
This is why I think MLB & the NFL are head & shoulders above the NBA because the NBA is sooooo predictable & the pre season of MLB & the NFL is a blast because thier teams actually have a shot to win when most people could name the NBA final 4 for next season & be right on 3 or 4 of them.

Anyways good luck to everybody's team this year as it's gonna be fun & I am already set with the Sunday Ticket & Superfan :banana::banana:

Just don't know who I will end up rooting for this year~

The Vikings will always be a sentimental fav, cuz they were my first favorite team. I always liked the Raiders from when I was little & when they were REAL bad boys, but as some of us know here, they have fallen on hard times lately (understatement of the century?!?). Still, they are my older son's fav team, so I "like" them I suppose.

My youngest son loves the Bills, so I do root for them...

I like Payton and Eli. I like Randy Moss, but I HATE the Patriots (sorry Pat's fans...). I still can't believe that stupid tuck rule BS!!!

I USED to LOVE Brett Farve, but well, we all know what happened with THAT soap opera.

Guess I'll just have to wait & see after the season starts. A lot will depend on what games I am able to see as I don't subscribe to any package or anything~ :what:

Hey sawzalot don't let glennb get under your skin as he seems to do that every time I see a post of his. Ignore him & get your mind on the good stuff...The NFL!!!

You Eagle fans are gonna love Jeremy Macklin as I think he will be waaay better than Desean Jackson. And with a healthy McNabb & Westbrook your offense will be hard to stop. I haven't studied up on the Eagles defense this year though so I don't really know where they stand on that side of the ball.
But if you have decent D there is no reason you guys can't win that division.

Maybe it'll be an all Pennsylvania Super Bowl this year, I know the MIGHTY STEELERS will be there!!!

Realisticly I think we have a good shot but we have a tough schedule & if Flacco was no fluke Baltimore will be giving us fits & if Cincinnati could come up with something that resembles a defense they could be a thorn in our side as far as beating us but I think at best they go 8-8, but as for the Browns I just don't know. I am a big Brady Quinn fan but he really hasn't had much of a chance & those fans are already hating on him. My brother is alot older than me so he was a Browns fan before the Bengals were ever created & has stuck with the Brownies & he think Quinn is a dud. So I think we should win the division & with some luck make it back to the Super Bowl!

Thanks for showing me the right direction,I agree with Jeremy Macklin being the better receiver and I really like The Real Deal LeSean McCoy the guy plays like a mini L.T. and surely could be as good as B West in the future,on top of those additions the O-Line is pretty much stacked this year so D Nabb gets a little more time in the pocket-that's all he ever wanted- we should have a first rate offense, R U Ready for some Football..

The Vikings have twixt the offense of Philly - even without a quarterback. Rumor has it that they'll only be playing 10 men on the "O" side of the ball. :D

The thing that shocked me most is that he said he flashed his brights at the guy before he was hit. This leads me to believe that he saw this guy, in the road or whatever, flashed his brights probably from a good distance, a way to say, I'm coming through with the car, and then proceded to hit and kill this guy. It doesn't seem like much of an accident to me.

That and the fact that he got off easy because he had money to pay the family off. Any regular joe would have done serious time over this, but he gets off easy because he's a star.

Don't even get me started on vick, I don't think he should be allowed to play at all. Ever.

I'm jealous that you guy's got vick. As for the game, the Pat's starters looked pretty good but the second team was pretty bad. I don't think McNab had a very good game and they really need him to play well. Well both teams still have time to work on things. It should be a great season.

Just read on msn foxsports that Glazer thinks Favre may still join the vikings. Even some of the players think he will be playing by the 3rd rpeseason game... I see that as a double edge sword myself.

Well one was intentional (vick torturing dogs) the other one was not (he was drunk). Don't get me wrong stallworth does deserve some form of punishment. And I don't believe he flashed his lites. Normal reaction when driving is to slam on brakes and/or turn to avoid hitting the person, not flash the lites. If anything he made himself look more dumb by saying that...

Gotta admit that these videos on NFL Network of Favre wearing a Vikings helmet looks pretty weird.

But if I was a Viking fan I would be ecstatic! Favre will have all day behind that offensive line so his TD/INT ratio should be better this year.
Plus I think Favre is just a little above avg. now but that is a huge upgrade from what they have & enough to propel them into the Super Bowl possibly. Won't be easy, but at least the Vikings are in the Super Bowl conversation now.

Gotta give credit to the Vikings front office because they were wasting a very good team with jokers like Tavaris & Rosenfels at QB. Good Luck to you guys.

That was two rough & tough football teams out there tonight & thankfully the Steelers came out on top!

People can say what they want about Brady & Manning & whoever...but if the game is on the line in the 4th qtr or OT I will take Big Ben over all of them anytime, as he is one tough QB that knows how to win football games.

I was mad at Hines Ward for about 2 seconds as I got over it quick knowing I have seen him win alot of games for us over his 12 years & that's the ONLY time I have ever seen him put us in a bad spot like that.

They are gonna have to get that running game rolling though, but they will I am sure because the Pittsburgh Steelers are an awesome team with a great coach & the best defense in the NFL.

Good Luck to everyone else's teams this weekend :hithere:

OUCH! Mike Tomlin says Troy Polumalu will be out 3-6 weeks.

Polumalu is the one who keeps our defense fired up so Harrison or Farrior need to step it up as far as leadership.
During that time period we only have one real tough team & that is San Diego who we get at home & then week 7 we get Minnesota but also at home. Not that the Browns,Bengals, Lions or Bears couldn't beat us but we should beat those teams.

5 turnovers, 2 missed field goals, 1 blocked, absolutely no run game from the steelers - did they even have 20 yards total? tennessee had a hard time stopping the pass, 11 penalties. Certainly was a good matchup, but the game seemed to lose it's luster with the loss of polamonu and scaife. Sucks for both teams. With no run game, the steelers are going to stumble against a team with a good pass defense. especially if polamonu misses more than a few games.

Don't get to excited. Buffalo had the game,,,and the pats know it. the pats had better start looking for some linebackers,,,or it's just gonna be a so-so season for them.

Oh pahleeze, I'm not getting excited, it's football FGS. I know Buffolo had that game last night, and they played, and executed way better than we did. However, Brady, and the Pats are still trying to find what gels, alot of our guys are gone!

I give props to Buffalo, they played one hell of a game. I loved the laterrals at the end, they went down fighting, and they should be proud of that.
In the NFL what counts is who walked away with the W.That my friend is what it's all about.

In Cleveland, a $3 bottle of water can cost a lot more than that
Posted by Mike Florio on September 19, 2009 9:38 AM ET

One of the problems of pretending to be a quasi-legitimate news organization is that, sometimes, we'll get beaten to the punch.

In this case, however, we don't mind.

Our pot-smokin' buddy (he doesn't smoke pot -- it's a slap at John Herrera) Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Browns have fined a player for not paying for a bottle of water that he drank in his hotel room during a preseason road trip.

The bottle of water cost $3.

With the fine, the player could have purchased 567 more of them.

Yes, Browns coach Eric Mangini fined the player $1,701 for not paying for the $3 bottle of water.

We'd heard about this one several days ago, but it sounded so ludicrous that we wanted to be 100 percent sure of it before mentioning it. (We hope NBC's legal department appreciates that.)

Nuggets like this serve only to bolster the notion that agents will be steering players away from the Browns in the 2010 offseason, essentially forcing the Browns to overpay (2008 Raiders style) in order to persuade players to join the Browns staff.

Meanwhile, if there's an issue with players not settling up their incidentals invoice from a hotel stay, why not simply deduct the cost of the unpaid bottles of water and Snickers bars (product placement!) from their paychecks? Hell, that's what we assumed most teams did, anyway.

Then again, common sense possibly ain't all that common within the walls of the football club residing in Cuyahoga County.

I predict the Chicago Bears will be 6 and 2 at mid season and have the most prolific offense in the NFC....
Once Cutler and the receivers get used to each other and with Forte to run the ball, watch out NFC.

You know it seems like the NFL has had some great games the first two weeks, at least it seems like more than usual. I can't remember seeing so many intense games so early. I sure am glad I got the NFL Sunday Ticket.

Just look at how many close games there was in week 2 & then what I'd call great games with Houston/Tenn, Cincy/GB, Jets/NE, & then how about the finish tonight between Indy/Miami....GREAT STUFF!!!

Just saying the NFL has been AWESOME so far this year for football fans imo. Looking forward to a great season.

Living in Cincy and catching a bunch of Browns games every year, I can say without a doubt that his hands of stone will become well known nationwide thanks to this trade.

Last week against Cincy Derrick Anderson literally threw a pass that thud'd off of Braylon's chest. On 3rd down no less.

The guy had a great first season and a half, but for whatever reason he's become completely unreliable.

I agree 100%...I hate Michigan & their players with a passion but I have still always said Braylon Edwards was the most talented WR in that division easily & one of the best in the NFL as far as having the ability to burn the guy covering him & getting open...BUT...it doesn't matter how open you are if you can't catch the freakin ball & Braylon Edwards can't catch the freakin ball!....good luck with that one Jets fans....your gonna need it.

I voiced my opinion in the rams suicide thread. Basically, if he buys the team, I'm done. I've dealt with previous owners moving my Rams to St. Louis and I've managed to remain loyal to the Franchise. If Rush buys them, my loyalty to the team ends immediately. I will just wait for a team to come to Los Angeles.

I don't know if you've been following the latest efforts to get us a team in L.A., but we are VERY close to making it happen. The goal is to have a team in L.A. by the 2011 season. :)

I've tried to be a Chargers fan, but San Diegans hate Los Angelinos, especially in sports. So it's hard to pull for a San Diego team. I just can't wait to have a team to call our own again.

While I think there are 4-5 teams with superior talent to the rest of the NFL I would say that it is not even closeright now that Indianapolis & Minnesota are by far playing the best football in the NFL right now. Nobody could beat either right now imo.
The Colts have Mr. Peyton Manning who has been playing nearly perfect games at QB. Plus he is doing it with WR's most of us have never heard of besides Reggie Wayne.
And I said all along on here that if Minnesota got just an avg. QB they would be the team to beat in the NFC. They have a machine on offense as they have a solid passing game with Favre & then the best RB in Peterson who has a backup in Chester Taylor who could start for a few teams. And their defense is awesome.

PITT is having some troubles wich is obvious when you lose to teams like the Bears & Bengals you know you got problems. But if Polumalu is 100% it will help alot. But we also lost Aaron Smith for the year who is one of the best DE's in the league.

But this is the kind of game if the Vikings win that would shut up any doubters.

Well we know from expierience the cream will rise to the top. We all know Pittsburgh, New England, Indy, San Diego & the Ravens will be on top in a few short weeks. Well it looks like the Mighty Steelers are finally starting to get their act together seeing that we beat the best team in the NFC, the Vikings.(yes I think the Vikes are much better than the Saints).

This is a big win for the Steelers imo. If you watch the Steelers you know they have really struggled with all of those injuries on defense & only lost two games. After losing to the Bears & Bengals (both who are doing a fine job for the talent they have to play with) I was wondering
if PITT was gonna follow up a Super Bowl win with a 8-8 record like before. But they should win at least 12 games easy.

I like that Pitt won because I don't like Farve but you think a team that barly beat the 49ers and got lucky to beat the Ravens are better than a team who crushed the undefeated Giants??

It was a very nice victory for the Steelers but there is no way the Vikings are better than the Saints.

Well it looks like the Mighty Steelers are finally starting to get their act together seeing that we beat the best team in the NFC, the Vikings.(yes I think the Vikes are much better than the Saints).

Saints >>>> Vikings. The Vikings have been extremely lucky with pulling off last minute victories. Glad the Steelers didn't let them off the hook. But yeah, the Saints are clearly better than the Vikes. Dynamic offense, plus their defense is solid. C'mon, they absolutely obliterated a great team in the Giants. You think the Vikes could do that? They play the Giants in Week 17. Here's what'll happen... A. they'll lose to them... or B. the Giants defense will fold with less than 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter to set up a Lord Favrequad GW-drive.

Off game? http://sigsports.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/shrug.gif

Well, at least this puts a dent in their chances of breaking the Pats' record of most points scored in a season. :)

Dolphins?

I was basing my opinion off of logic. The current game Miami and NO had not started yet. NY Giants are kinda better than barly beating the 49ers. No?? Min has beat the Browns, Lions, 49ers, Packers, Rams and Ravens. I'm just basing it off that. Id say thats pretty reasonable.

On another note, the current game is far from over.

Well, what do you know, the Saints erased a 21-point deficit and dropped 46 on the Fins.

So to reiterate... Saints >>> Vikings.

It is just my opinion that the Vikings are better than the Saints. While the Saints look like they could score from anywhere at anytime they have not played nobody, & don't bring up the sorry Giants who have beaten the Chiefs, Bucs, Redskins, cowboys & Raiders, heck the Lions could have beat all those teams. But still it is JUST AN OPINION as the Saints might beat the vikes 66-0 if they played tomorrow as I don't really care.
All I care about is the Steelers & today they finally looked like "the Steelers" for the first time this year as they have to get it together with Indy & the Patriots in their Confrence.

Bengals just beat the Bears 45-10.

Same Bears team that beat the Steelers.

How can you say the Saints have played nobody and not use the same argument with the Vikings. Teams the Saints have played and beat have 18wins. Teams the Vikings have beat only 12wins. Thats eaiser teams than the Saints have played. If you add the Steelers to that, that would be 17wins. Still less wins then the teams the Saints have played. Just sayin.

Don't get me wrong though, Steelers looked good today.

I did not mean the Saints had a "tougher" schedule it is just that they hadn't played anybody worth a dime. The Vikings schedule is pretty weak the best I remember also other than playing Green Bay & the Ravens. But like I said it is just an opinion & the only teams that concern me are Indy & New England, because talent wise Indy, NE, & PITT are hands down the 3 best teams in football & it would take a real homer of another team to say any different.

PITT did look good today for the first time this year they was healthy & played tough Steeler football.

Still next to no talk about the Bengals as contenders.

What other team has more impressive wins? Am I missing something?

Baltimore
Pittsburgh
Green Bay
Chicago
Cleveland
and damn near Denver.

Cincy has a good team,,,but just a lack of respect. As long as they continue to let okowhoknow or what ever the hell he calls himself,,to be the twittering voice of the team,,,the respect will be hard earned. His antics are about as welcome as Rodmans hair color. It might gather attention, but makes the team look silly for putting up with it.

Ocho has zero DUIs, no run-in's with the law,no steroid allegations and a good team attitude.

I'll take that in 2009.

I like Ochocinco. His antics are in good fun, unlike someone like TO. He backs it up on the field as well.

didn't say he wasn't a good player. didn't equate him to TO. But did say Cincy has a good team. But let's not forget that football is a team sport and when you have one athlete out to ego-sate,,,and push for publicity it does cause animosity. Let's not forget the way the press likes to hyperflate everything now-a-days,,and the first time okochkobeo (hell,,whatever) pisses somebody off in the twitter brigade the press will have a hey day just because he drew the extra attention. Oko (chad) should concentrate on football for his teammates and concentrate on his news career when he retires.

Wow 12 days and no post in this thread whats wrong everyone ready of Basketball already?

Eagles unimaginitive playcalling and another poor performance by McNutt in a big game spells loss for the Eagles....Is it me or can't the eagles come up with any creative ways to try to fit Vick into the play calling scheme..

Was that the dumbest play this century for the Pat's last night. I can't believe Belicheck pulled that blunder. It just show's that he has no confidence in his defense. Yes I know that the defense was not very good but you can't give them such a short field by taking a chance like that. Hopefully they will work on their defense so the next time they will play better.

It was a pretty smart play seeing how they converted it. You just have blind/idiot officials making calls.

I hate to defend officials but he did bobble the ball and by the time he gained control it was short of the marker. The worst call was before that with the interference that wasn't even close to being interference. That being said.....OFFICIALS SUCK:lol:...........

I agree with Bill, Pats defense was getting used by Peyton no faith that they could stop him on a third opportunity. so yeah get the first down run out the clock works for me.
