Lexicon to offer high-end Blu-ray player

This is clearly based on the Oppo BDP-83. I can only guess about any possible differences to justify whatever the premium will be. The possible upgrades could be better DAC's, better power supply, and THX certification which might require something although I doubt it. Bottom line, the player will likely be identical in performance and a silver color will be the only obvious difference. I can only guess as to price as well, but my guess is $1,500.

I am not believing the $3,500 price if it is identical to the Oppo BDP-83.

If they put in a high def recorder then it might justify the price, until then I have my doubts it will go over well.

Lexicon has survived for decades by selling high profit margin products made by others and I expect this will do alright. I don't know their cost for this but as a consumer we can buy the Oppo version direct for $500. I would assume this one is made by Winbase Electronics also and probably costs a little more than that for Lexicon due to the limited production run and cosmetic and possibly internal changes. If it really is $3,500, it probably won't sell much.
