Just ordered the Onkyo HT-S7100 7.1 Channel Receiver and Speaker Package and have heard the wires that come with the setup are sub-par. Being a Newb to the AV world, can someone let me know exactly what I need to purchase? I know about Monoprice, but dont know specifically what to purchase and why.

Thanks!!

Jarrod

Loves2watch....You have been a huge help through out my TV purchase and Surround Sound purchause. I ended up with the 54'' G10 and now the Onkyo S7100 mostly from your advice. I very much appreciate it.

I will purchase the roll of wire immediately! :yippee: Any other connections or wires I will need?

Some HDMI cables for each device you will connect to the system and one for the TV. Monoprice has great prices on them as well. Just look for the lowest price and there you have it...

Glad I could be of assistance.

One other thing that can help with your speaker wire connections at the receiver end is banana plugs, like these: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040115&p_id=2801&seq=1&format=2

How many do I need?

How many do I need?

1 pair for each speaker. Are you going 5.1 or 7.1? You either need 5 or 7 pair. They're not "required" but they are NICE. If you go with in wall wiring you may need more. 3x more to be accurate.

ETA: Actually I looked and it would be 4x. Reason for error, presuming the other side of the plate was soldered on. Silly me.

Receiver (1x) to the wall {ETA: (1x+ back side of plate (1x)}, speaker location plate (1x) speaker.

[5.1 double gang plate]

[7.1 triple gang plate]
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042503&p_id=4013&seq=1&format=2

The nice thing about the decora style plates is you can replace the white plastic with brass, wood, or various other decorator options.

[7.2 double gang]
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042503&p_id=5140&seq=1&format=2

ETA: Note you can't replace the the bezel on this unit.

Had I been smart I would have ordered these.

I mewssed up on one install and bought the wrong bezel plate (6 pair) plate.

I do love those wallplates though.. talk about a very neat/clean install.
