Well it's finally confirmed by the Denver Post. Joe Sakic is supposedly going to announce his retirement at a press conference on the 9th. (Tomorrow)
I loved the way Joe played and was always amazed at his pure skill for the game. More than anything, he was a pretty amazing captain. Having said that, I think it's time. When Roy retired, I couldn't help but think it was a year too late. He should have retired a year earlier. (Roy was my all-time favorite player.)
But now, it's time for Sakic to move on. The Avs are rebuilding the team. They really have very little shot at the cup next year and Sakic would not have changed that. It's time for him to move on and let the team turn the corner to a new team. I have no doubt in my mind that Sakic will become a pretty big part of the team in the future at some level.
