I recently purchased a HDTV and have Dish network with a SD receiver. I would like to get HD signal. I have a second dish to install to pickup the satilite I need no problem. What is the best way to get the receiver? From what I have heard dish isn't that friendly to existing customers, especially when they are already locked into a contract as I am.

Thanks

you can get an hd receiver without any problem; but i'd recommend getting an hd dvr. they probably will try to charge $50 to send you one; but you might be able to get out of it by talking to the customer loyalty department (remember, you ARE spending additional money for the hd...this helps your cause).

it does put you at a slight disadvantage when you are mid-contract...but persistence (& staying calm on the phone) generally pay off in these situations. you will be happy with the hd, either way.

unless you actually want a channel on the platinum tier, i wouldn't recommend it. the channels they give you for the extra $10/month are not worth it, imo. i've been happy with the gold hd (they are offering the platinum for free for 3 months, to try it out)...

You also have the option of purchasing a HD receiver or DVR and adding it to your account. They can be purchased from sources like www.solidsignal.com and http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Order/Receivers/Dish-Network-Receivers.htm and www.dishstore.net.

Oh dear, I spent a lot of money on an HDTV but I want to do my HD service on the cheap.

Put up an antenna.

$50 or even $100 lease down on a $400 receiver is not a bad investment, especially when you consider that if you buy one you'll pay the same $7 per month for it as if it was leased anyway.

Use Dish-N-It-Up to lease the HD receiver you want (limited to once per year) and Dish will install the correct dish plus the receiver and you even have a guarantee - do it yourself and you're on your own.
