RG-11 cable used with RG-6 cable

I want to install a dish 200' from my house and want to use RG-11 cable. My sat installer says the dish only recieves RG-6 cable.How does he connect RG-11 cable to the dish and inside the house? Please help me figure this out. Is there not a connector to make this happen?

You can use RG11 but the tech will have to use a special fitting on the end of the RG11 cable that compresses to the RG11 and the other end will fit a RG6 barrell such as the back of your receiver. Someone please correct me if there is another way to do it...


The tech is basically telling you that if he runs RG6 over 150 feet you are going to lose signal quality. I believe that the loss for RG6 at 100 feet is 6db and RG11 at 100 feet is 4db assuming you are at 1GHZ.

Now I installed Dish Network systems and ran RG6 at over 200 feet (not always but in certain situations) because we didn't carry RG11. We had RG11 cable and could use it if warranted. The tech should have the proper tools to run you RG11. He probably doesn't want to it is much harder to work with (weight wise anyway).

Anyway after installing the system and looking at signal strength at the receiver I normally dropped about 5 percent (if I would have had a 95 percent signal strength I would have 90).

Hope that helps you somewhat... If you can use RG11 then by all means use it!!! In my opinion RG6 is good for runs of 50-150'...

Some equipment will not allow the center connector of rg11 to be inserted. The connectors on the equipment should if they meet specs, but some don't. They do make rg11 to rg6 connectors for those special applications. rg11 connectors are readily available.

thanks for getting back to me guys, but my tech does not know of a connector that will work. Can you tell me what and where you can get these? He would like to know. It's Dish Network directed at the western arc.
