720- 1080 SD quality

Since there isn't as much upscaling to be done, SD will look better on a 720 set than a 1080 set, all things being equal.

In my experience, screen size has more effect on SD PQ than any other factor. A friend of mine has a 42" 1080p and it has much better SD quality than my 50" 720p.

But if the screen size is the same, SD material will look a bit better on a 720 set than a 1080 set.

I had thought the same thing as there would be less change from the native 480i to the 720p but a lot of my research seems to support this not being true.

It seems that in most all cases the higher tiered 1080p sets have far superior and better advanced scaling engines than those offered in the 720p sets and therefore will offer a better quality upscaling even though the resolutions are further apart.

It was explained to me and makes sense that the 720p sets since are the lowest tier offered by the manufacturers do not get the better and more expensive hardware and software that comes in the higher tiered more expensive sets and one of the main differences is the sets ability as far as upscaling is concerned.

Actually the main thing I have learned is that screen size and viewing distance has more effect as far as the difference between 720p and 1080p being noticeable
