HDTV/BD player picture problem

I'm new to the forum and would really appreciate some help.

I have a used Sony KV-34HS510 that I bought recently and I hooked it up to my new Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-Ray player using an HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI connector.

The problem is a bit difficult to describe, but when I play BD's or DVD's there is an approx. 2" wide vertical band of higher picture brightness (or ghosting if you will... not sure if that's the right term) that sweeps across the screen from right to left. I find it very distracting and is affecting my enjoyment of the movie.

I initially suspected EMI/RFI so I tried a higher quality cable that is HDMI to DVI without the connector. This made no noticeable difference.

I then tried connecting the player to the TV via the component connections. The ghosting was no longer present. I would be satisfied with this option however the picture is not quite as sharp as it is with the HDMI connection.

Any ideas or advice would be great.

Thanks!

For all intents and purposes, the HDMI and component video connections should be the same. If your sharpness is different then it would seem to be a simple adjustment of the sharpness control of the TV (and/or disc player) to resolve the issue. Each TV input (HDMI1, HDMI2, component, S-Video, etc.) settings in most modern TV's are individual so a simple adjustment should be all that is needed.

Did that help?
