:) I live within two poles of Adelphia cable. When I asked them if
they would hook me up for cable. The installer told me it would cost
about 2500 to add the lines for cable internet. Well I guess that was
out. A dish installer was here a couple of days ago to make some
adjustment to my dish alignment. He informed me that as early as
this fall Dishnetwork would be providing internet service through one
of their satellites, and it would be as fast at cable, and the cost
per month would be about the same as cable... Sounded good to me.

Downeaster has Adelphia upgraded your area to digital? If not then you just SOL.
As far as using E* for internet access, The only service that I know of at this point in time is called Directway. The price with them is out of sight. You will also have the same weather problems with it.
When I was checking out the system the local sat. installer he said that in his opinion using a dish for internet was not much faster than dail-up.

Downloads are faster than dial-up,,,on par with DSL. Uploads are extremely slow.

Satellite internet used to use your phone line as upload, thus the slow speed, is it still like that??

I talked with the service individual and he said that the internet
service was very close to being initiated. He believed that it would
be sometime this summer or early fall. He claimed that the charges
would be very close to a normal cable hookup, with a likewise
upload/download speed. If I remember correctly he said would be
hooked up to the superdish, and once hooked up you would not
experience the clogged bandwidth that occurs when cable companies
pile on new customers. You would be receiving over your own sat
and would be in itself your own server. It isn't directway, as I have
inquired about that and thats a bust. AS far as the
Adelphia cable, it has been upgraded to digital, only two pole lengths
away. I am not paying what they want. They told me seeing as
I will have to pay for the lines appx 2500 dollars  , then the monthly
fee of 57 dollars prior to taxes. Its more for me because I have the
dishnetwork and not the television service through Adelphia.

I have seen a few 2-way systems now. They are claiming DSL speed both up and down with no phone line.
Crazy exspensive though. Last time I checked it was your choice of:
$699 equipment charge up front, plus $59 a month on a contract.
$99 up front, plus $99 a month on contract!
