Anybody else seen that Earth Channel 212?
The local news mentioned it the other day, and I hadn't known about it...
It's not HD, but it's cool to look at: real time look at our planet from the Echostar sat~ Depending on the time of day, you can get a really clear view of North & South America
Now if you could only "super-zoom" with your remote!!
I saw it. Looked pretty good. It's perplexing it's not in HD though, as well as NASA.

I just found out about it thanks to ENGADGET (http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/04/24/dishs-earth-channel-takes-a-big-picture-view/).
" Earth Day has come and gone, but in case you need to be reminded of how we're all just passengers on this "big blue marble," check out DISH network's new Earth channel. On channel 212 you won't be treated to jaw-dropping or shark-jumping plotlines, just a 24-hour feed of the Earth from a camera mounted on the EchoStar 11 satellite that went up (http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/07/16/dish-networks-echostar-xi-successfully-reaches-orbit/) about a year ago. Hanging tens of thousands of miles above our planet, the camera offers up pixels that cover 20-km each. Sure, it might not be as breathtaking as an Earth-rise (http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/04/27/full-earthrise-over-the-moon-captured-from-space-in-hd/) from the moon -- heck, it's not even in HD -- but it should still put some perspective on things. "
Now all we need is an Alien spaceship cruising by to make it interesting.

I just looked in on this channel again, and the background music playing was "Where Do The Children Play" from Cat Stevens' classic Tea for the Tillerman...
Talk about an introspective moment... Really made me stop & think~
I wonder if it was just a coincidence, or is someone really putting THAT much thought into the music for this station?!?

When the channel was first turned on last Wednesday afternoon, they were playing classical music then by Friday the music was coming from SiriusXM "The Bridge" (soft rock).
This may just end up being a SiriusXM preview channel with the music being switched every few days.
