How do I set my VCR to automatically timer record programs from Dish Satellite TV? One channel at 8:00, another at 9:00, another at 10:00 for example. TIA, Annie.

Annie,

You could connect the composite outputs (yellow, red, white) from dish receiver to the composite inputs on your vcr. It would successful record whatever channel you set the receiver for... Unfortunately, the vcr is not able to change channels on the dish receiver. So you are limited to tuning a channel on the receiver and then setting a timer on the vcr.

You may want to check out a dish dvr. They are so much easier to use than recording with vcr. You'll pay a few more dollars per month but will absolutely love the freedom and ease of recording! Really! My wife laughed when I brought home our first dvr. We'll hardly ever use it was her complaint. Now, she would divorce me if I tried to take it back... ;)

HTH and best,

Rick

The setup would work with any dish receiver. You should also check that you can use 'Auto Tune' on the receiver and us that to change the channel on the receiver and just set the vcr to record from start time to finish time (8 pm til whenever the 10 pm show is over).

OK..........to set the VCR to record through all of the channel changes.......would I set the VCR to record channel 3 or 4?

I do use the DVR to record all of the "Twilight Zones" for instance.....like THAT feature. But..........not as easy to watch playback like a VCR. Can't just push "play" and watch a bunch in a row, you have to go through a "process". I have to get up off of the couch, turn the lights on and put my glasses on to navigate the whole playback issue every half hour, can't just go to sleep and rewind to where I drifted off. :)

My VCR has spoiled me.

Use the composite cable (yellow, white, red) and look for the proper input (could be 1 or 2 depending on your vcr.
