i saw this TV the other day at Best Buy and was VERY impressed! It was sitting next to a Toshiba 30HF85, and it was a better looking picture, by far. The LG, although it is an older deep-neck tube, had no geometry issues, and was sharp and had excellent color fidelity. If was WAY too blue, and the contrast was too high, and the brightness was too low, but it looks like this is a set that will respond very well to some simple adjustments. Changing the color temperature to WARM got rid of the overly blue screen, with just a touch of added pink, and bringing up the brightness to 70 and the Contrast down from 100 to 55 made a huge improvement in the picture.
The real selling point to me of this set is the terrific ASTC/QAM onboard tuner! This is the first LG consumer product to incorporate the new fifth-generation ASTC tuner chip, which is supposed to greatly reduce the effects of multipath on an ASTC signal. It was hard to judge this on the set in the store, since it was a closed-circuit feed, but the interface is the familiar LG-Zenith ASTC tuner interface, which is very easy to navigate. For an $899.95 selling price, this set looks to me to be a winner, although I suppose I will have to get it home and play with it to see how well the tuner works.
I'd be very curious to see if anyone else here has seen the set, or has any other experience with it. While some people bad-mouth LG, I have had several LG products, including the LG LST-3100 digital ASTC/QAM tuner, several cell phones, and an LG washer and dryer with which I have been quite happy. Any one else with any input on this product?
