HD Digital Tuner or HD Antenna?

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to get some OTA channels on my Envision L32W661. I'm deciding between a Samsung HD Digital Tuner (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=audiovideo&type=digitalsettopbox&subtype=hdtvtuners&model_cd=DTB-H260F/XAA) or one of the Phillips Indoor Antenna's (e.g. the SDV2740/27 or SDV2711/27) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001JE5N3A .

I'm not sure which one to go with. The Samsung I can get for around $50, and the Phillips for around $30. The $20 is not a huge deal, as I'm more concerned to which one would give me better quality reception and HD. And I live in Brooklyn, so I believe I should have good ability to get OTA reception.

Thanks in advance for the advice/tips.

I am not sure what the question is... 1 link is for a digital tuner and the other is for an antenna.. If your TV does not have a digital ATSC tuner you would need both (and possibly an outdoor antenna depending on your location).. And those Samsung Tuners usually go for around $150-$200. I seen a couple go on E-bay for around $100, so $50 would be a bit on the low side of town and would be a nice grab. What is your Zipcode to verify your antenna needs??

Edit: I checked your TV's info and it does have a built in ATSC digital tuner for OTA.. No Samsung external tuner needed.. Just the antenna.

The L32W661 is our sleek and slim black 32" television- the perfect compliment for your living room or bedroom. With inputs such as HDMI for the best connectivity and NTSC/ATSC tuners and with Clear QAM for high definition signal reception.

Zipcode is 11209.

The Samsung box I can get at Circuit City. I'm honestly confused to what it exactly does. I am more or less thinking it will get me OTA HD reception, but from what I think you are saying I would need an antenna as well?

Sorry for not specifying in my original post that my TV has the built in Tuners. I'm somewhat knowledgeable on LCDs/Plasmas but when it comes to this whole Tuner & OTA signal stuff I'm somewhat lost. Thanks again for the advice.

If your TV has a built-in digital tuner then you do not need the Samsung DTB-H260F box to get OTA HD reception. Even at $50 you would be wasting money by buying something you do not need.

OTOH, you do need an antenna to receive OTA signals. Connect the antenna to the connector marked "Antenna" or "VHF/UHF" on the back of the TV, point the antenna towards the transmitters, and run the TV's channel scan routine. Whether or not the Philips antenna is good enough for your location can only be determined by testing it out, because indoor antennas are always an iffy proposition. Before buying it, just make sure you can return it if it doesn't do the job.

Looked at the Envision L32W661 on the web and it says NTSC/ATSC tuner, so HD tuner should be built-in. You just need an antenna pointed at the DTV transmitters, dude!
