Toshiba A35 handshaking issue with HDMI

Anyone have this issue with A35 and hdmi? When I change my TV input to HDMI for my A35 and the setting for the video output is 1080p/24, my screen flashes. It seems to have a handshaking issue. I have to go into the A35, change it to 1080p and the flashing disappears. I usually have to turn my TV off and then back on, and the problem disappears. I have a Sharp LC46D64U with Jan 09 firmware (S code I think) and it does support 24hz input and it confirms it onscreen.
Wonder if it's the TV firmware or A35 (I've updated to latest FW already and same deal). My Panasonic BD55 doesn't have this issue via HDMI with 1080p/24 on same TV.

Anyone experience this same issue?

It does sound like you just need to make sure your display is on BEFORE you turn on the HD35 as the solution. This IS a big problem with HDMI IMO and they need to require ALL devices to handle ALL protocols to get the HDMI logo. From what i have read they do not have to handle ALL protocols to get the logo approval now which makes for the problems we see.

Interesting name for a HD DVD and BD owner BTW.

Thanks for the response. I guess I do have to make it a habit to just turn on my TV with the input enabled and then turn on my A35. I think this does fix the issue.

Yeah, my 1st and last name are the RayBan part and it seemed like it fit just adding the "Blu" in front of it! :)

BluRay would be good. I should be getting $$ from Sony every time I make a post on this and other forums I have that ID on, huh? Free advertising!!! :)

Some Sharps and quite a few Samsungs experience this problem with the Toshibas.

Thanks, Jim. I will just have to turn the TV on the input before I power on the HD35. I thought the newest firmware for the HD35 would have fixed it but it did not.

I love the 35. Does a great job of upconverting, just shy of the reference mark set by the A2 but at considerably less expense. Sorry to see HD DVD go the way of the Dodo.

I think it does an even better job upconverting SD DVD's than my Panasonic BD55 does. It is one of the best upconverters out there for the price! At least I can still buy HD DVD movies at around $5 online. :yippee:
