New HotPass is AWEFUL

I'm not sure who the brain child is behind the new hotpass format, but he/she is an idiot. It's awful! Last year was much better! What happened to the FULL SCREEN dedicated channels? Why do we have to listen to ALL THE AUDIO at once?!

Last year we had the option of looking at only our driver or at the major broadcast feed. And we could watch our driver and either listen to their audio OR the broadcast OR the hotpass broadcasters.

Now my 52" HD TV is 2 20 tv's thanks to the split screen...............idiots.

Done venting, back to the 500.

I seen on D* where Nascar HotPass is free for the whole year in 2009.

Maybe you guys already knew it, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Can you believe what Jr. did? What a creep, man. Totally cheap and uncalled for, IMO.

I paid for HotPass last year and would gladly pay again if I could get the same coverage!

Jr. was just paying Vickers back for Talladega 3 years ago. That little creep deserved it. Just gald shrub was in it. If Jr. wasn't so stupid in the pits this race would be his.

Every week it's something. JR. and his cousin just can't put together one good race in a row.

well, you get what you pay for. oh wait, you're not paying anything. you should be glad they left some of it there, they could have gotten rid of it completely.

Apparently you either missed or just ignored the part where I said I would gladly pay for it....I did last year....as long as they went back to last year's format.

If they continue with the format they had today, they need to get rid of it completely! I wound up watching Fox for 2 reasons: 1) I didn't buy a 52" 1080p LCD TV so that I would be forced to watch katty-corner split screen that amounted to 2 - 20" tv's and 2) I couldn't stand having to listen to Fox's broadcast and the in-car/team audio/mostly squelch ON TOP OF EACH OTHER!

DirecTV: if this is your idea of improving HotPass then can it. It sux.

theyre not trying to improve it, if they were itd still be pay-per-view. since its free they cant afford to make the investments for the technology they had in previous seasons.
i'm guessing they're slowly trying to faze it out, I bet it won't even exist next year.

if you hate the new format so much you could always just go to the races with a scanner.

Tom,
I realize everyone's in cost cutting mode these days. I get the economics. I doubt theyre trying to faze it out nor that it won't exist in some format next year. But the format they've got now is a joke and if cost saving is their concern, then they should '****-can' it in it's current format altogether. Trust me, nobody would miss it as it stands right now.

And I've been to several races with the scanner.......it's much better in my living room (when I can watch the race on ALL 52" of my tv) where I can get up and go to my kegerator and pour myself a cold one and then sit back down in my recliner!!!!!!

And you got to PAY $99 for it!!! It's free this year.

It's almost like what InDemand did for cable back when they had it. They charged $79-99 for it then and it did not have the network feed at all. You were stuck riding in the car and never knew/saw anything else happen. You only knew something happened when you heard the spotter say, "cautions out". No replays either.

The incar is the same size as it was before I believe. For being free, I think it's fine.

Didn't know it was free. Maybe that's why I couldn't find it on D* website when I was trying to order it. This sucks, I get D* and looking forward to getting NASCAR Hotpass and now I'm finding out they are down grading. Was it at least in HD?

Did you clicl the Nascar link under Sports?! It is there.

Yes it was in HD - although is was 2 windows (not a full screen) for incar & the national feed.

And the 2 audios were broadcast on top of each other, so half the time you couldn't hear/understand either one. Especially with the team audio seeming to be more squelch than anything.

Actually, if memory serves me correct, I paid $149 for it. Just because it's FREE doesn't make it a better deal/product!

I don't know about the in car? Last year that wasn't an option. Last year there was a dedicated camera(s) for each driver that would pretty much fill up the screen (in HD) with your driver and his immediate area. Or, you could switch to the regular broadcast feed (in HD). Then you had your choice of audio feeds: team, HotPass or the broadcast feed.

I KNOW that's got to cost a bunch of extra money to have several cameras following 4 different drivers--that's A LOT of equipment and man power (not to mention the behind the scenes production). Fine. Simple solution. Can the current HotPass format--it sux. For the video feed, use the national broadcast feed -- in HD. For audio, GIVE US A CHOICE WHAT TO LISTEN TO: regular broadcast audio OR team audio OR a combination -- but give us a choice. And when it goes to commercial, revert back to the current format (with the katty-corner split screen) and show both the regular broadcast feed (so the sponsors will be happy) and the race (so the race fans will be happy) but keep the audio options intact. Easy. And it's not going to cost D* a dime more than what they're currently spending for this WONDERFUL, FREE :yippee: SERVICE?!

I don't believe it was ever that high. I never said it's better! I said it's free! Why complain about something that's FREE?! If you don't like it, DON'T WATCH IT!!!

No, there wasn't. It was a triple screen that had the national feed in the upper right area, a wide angle view of the car on the track (or replays) in the upper left area; and the incar/rooftop/bumper views in the lower 1/3 or 1/2 of the screen. They rarely used a full screen view during the race itself.

Or, you could switch to the regular broadcast feed (in HD). Then you had your choice of audio feeds: team, HotPass or the broadcast feed.

2 different things. The regular HD feed let you pick audio from select drivers NOT carried on Hotpass incar. You had to be on the drivers channel to pick between team/national/hotpass feeds.

You're right, I paid $109 for it. Just because it's FREE doesn't make it worth having/not complaining about! And I haven't watched it since about lap 50 at Daytona.

Ok, right again, but they did use full screen. And the wide angle view, at least on my 52" TV was a damn sight better than this FREE crap that got now.

And you're point is? Have you tried listening to the current audio? I never once said that you could choose OTHER team feeds. I SAID, you had the choice of listening to either the team audio, national audio OR hotpass audio.

Ahhhh....well at least now I know what you're driving force is. Maybe? Either you're in the 'if it's FREE it's a great deal!' camp or perhaps D* can do no wrong in your eyes? Either way, you obviously watched the HotPass format last year. You must be a Nascar fan. Not withstanding your constant--But it's FREE argument--you surely don't believe this is better product? Just because it's FREE doesn't make it a better freakin' product! It sucks!:banghead:

I'm guessing that I watched about 30+/- races last year on HotPass--THAT'S ABOUT $3.63 / RACE! FREE don't seem like such a good deal anymore, at least to me.

I don't know what it was like prior to this year. I was planning on paying for the service this year. I even went to DIRECTV website the day before Daytona and it was showing "To check back closer to the 2009 season." I watched some of the California race on Hot Pass and after 30 minutes I tuned back into the regular Fox broadcast. I couldn't even hear the team audio over the normal broadcast audio, and the split screen sucked IMO. In its current form I will not watch it. I'm also upset they changed it because I would have payed $150.00 for the way it was.

Well, if FREE is not a good deal to you, then DON"T WATCH IT! Are you stupid? Why would watch something that you did not like? (stupid is as stupid does) Since you did not pay for it, you are not out ANYTHING. You appear to be a flamer so I am done with ya man. Watch golf instead. Read a book. :haha:
