My mother wants a new tv as do i :D I have about 150gb worth of HD movies on my pc and would love to watch them on a nice hdtv. We have credit at bestbuy and was looking at some of the tv's. The one that caught my attention was the Samsung TXR3079WH (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7045397&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03002&id=1099396990967) and the Sony KD30XS955 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6494162&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03002&id=1077628886036) . I like both becuase of their looks and they offer a built in HD tuner which saves me a couple hundred and were on a budget. So which would be best?

How will you recieve digital signal? Over the Air? Cable, Sat?
Having a built in tuner is great if you have a source.
I like Sony. I have XBR 960 and love it. :yippee:

You'll have to get an HD cable box from your provider. I'm not sure how it works with other providers, but for me, I just went to the Time Warner store and replaced my old box with an HD one. They have some standard HD channels that are free, and some other premium ones that you pay for.
The built in tuner probably won't help you with the HDTV from your cable company. Most cable companies are still extending HDTV as a premuim service (scrambled), so you'd need their box. It usually only costs $5-10 more a month to upgrade to HDTV, then maybe a couple more bucks to get the HD DVR.
The built-in tuner will get you all the OTA HDTV you want, but you'll need an antenna. Check antennaweb.org to see what's available in your area.

The Sony has a CableCard slot, so it's tuner can unscramble encrypted digital cable... the Sammy doesn't seem to have a CC slot. This replaces the external cable box, but misses a couple features like the Guide.
