I'm really new to surround sound so How many devices can I hook up to it? I want my xbox 360, my wii , and my blu-ray player connected to it. My xbox 360 does not have an hdmi output on it just component same with my wii my blu-ray player has 1 hdmi output and a component output. So how exactly will this surround sound system connect to my devices? Thanks!

kamspy 01-12-2009, 11:58 PM I can't find any hard specs on the I/O selection of the RCA, but I doubt it has enough digital inputs to get surround out of all your gear.
For the price of the RCA, you could get this Onkyo Surround Sound Rig. (http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKHTS3100SLV/Onkyo/HT-S3100-700w-Receiver-5-Speakers-Subwoofer-SILVER/1.html)
For hooking everything up, go with optical cables from monoprice.com (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229&cs_id=1022901&p_id=2763&seq=1&format=2)
Bigloww 01-13-2009, 12:08 AM Ditto on the 3100 Kamp's recommended. But either way you will be good to go. Connect your 360 and BD player via optical and your Wii via strait analog (Red and White).. The Wii only supports Dolby Pro logic to my knowledge so that will e your only option.
Halo360Fan 01-13-2009, 12:30 AM I don't know if this will make me sound stupid lol but how exactly does the optical cable plug into the 360/BD?

If you have one of the older model 360's, the optical connection is on the big connector that has the adio/video wires coming from it. Don't feel bad, I didn't notice that connector there when I first got my 360 either.
The BD player will have an optical connection on the back of it.
kamspy 01-13-2009, 11:23 AM It's a little square gate on the back of the PS3, and yeah, like Stew said, it's on the proprietary side of the 360 component cable.
Once you get the cables you'll understand.
Halo360Fan 01-13-2009, 02:19 PM oh here is a problem. From my understanding the optical output is located here.

I bought a xbox 360 core system which came with composite cables so when i got my HDTV I bought xbox 360 Monster Component cables from target for 25 bucks and it does not have the optical output. Is there anyother way to connect my 360 to a surround sound system?

No other way but to buy the other cable/connector from MS to get 5.1. Otherwise you are stuck with stereo.
Yes, that is the connection I was referring to.
Halo360Fan 01-13-2009, 04:35 PM I'll just buy a xbox 360 VGA cable that will work right?
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/
Stew4HD 01-13-2009, 05:32 PM I recommend this one here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360componenthdcable/). It will take care of your HD (1080i) video and has the optical connection.
There is a little switch on the side of the connector for SD or HD

VGA is the best way to play 360.

How so? Please explain why its better than component.

Color Scale. VGA>Component
0-255 > 16-235.
VGA carries vertical sync and horizontal sync data.
Component does not.
Some HDTVs 'downconvert' VGA spec to component spec (discard the VS, HS, and adjust the color scale to 16-255).
At the end of the day, not a huge difference and dependent on your display (your good with the Kuro VGA-wise), but worth checking out.
Monoprice has the 360 VGA cable for like $7.

Ah.. I didn't think it was a noticeable difference. I usually go for convenience in these situations. Most AVRs and all HDTVs readily accept component but few AVRs accept VGA, AFAIK.
Does that VGA cable from monoprice have the optical connector?

Yep. It's what I use.
