Audio Skipping on DVR Playback

I've got a long-standing problem with audio skipping out while playing DVR programs (622).

I'm on my third receiver and they have all exhibited the same problem.

Dish offered to replace the first box immediately when I told them about the skipping problem.

The new box skipped as also but after a short while, would not read the security card, so I had to replace it.

Now I'm on my third receiver and it skips. It happens predominantly on Fox when viewing recorded HD programs. The audio skips intermittently, for 1 second or more. Sometimes it cuts out for a minute or more.

Is this a common problem with this receiver? Any suggestions?

My experience is there may be something wrong with your install.

1. Marginal signal on the HD channels - repoint would fix this.
2. If existing cabling was used (instead of new) and it is damaged anywhere could cause transponder dropout.
3. System not grounded properly.
4. Really bad power in your area and no power conditioning and or surge protection.

However, item one is the likely culprit.

From the channel giving you the most trouble go into the POINT DISH SIGNAL screen (MENU 6, 1, 1) and see what the signal strength is.

Get me this info and I can get you more info.

Thanks for the reply. Here's my signal levels:

Sat 110 - 59
Sat 119 - 73
Sat 129 - 48

These do seem low but I'm unfamiliar w/ the newer signal strength scaling method.

However, why would the audio skipping only manifest while watching recorded DVR events? Even if I just pause live for a few minutes and resume, the skipping occurs. I don't experience problems watching live events.

Get the 722, the 622 is full of problems.

Really, and you know this how?
Both the 622 and the 722 are built on the same platform with the same motherboard and electronics and are manufactured for Dish/Echostar by JVC. The proprietary Linux OS used in these models has had it's flaws, hence the firmware updates, but seems to be pretty stable at this point.

I would recommend calling Dish and scheduling an appointment to have the dish realigned.

My 722 skips audio from time to time. I just hit the back arrow and then 'Live TV' when I hit the next commercial break and all is fine. It doesn't happen often enough to be an issue.

In your case it is a software issue. The OP's problem is different.

This wouldn't be the first time people reported problem with the 622s right!

Nor is it the first time people have reported problems with any consumer electronics device.
