Can anyone tell me if the SD signal out of a 622 is 4:3 or 16:9 on the HD content? Right now all the HD content only shows what can fit on a 4:3 (sides cut off) and I would assume that with a 16:9 HDTV you would see black bars (pillarboxing). I'm looking into replacing the TV to a flat panel but I'm thinking that it may not be good for the TV (always showing black in those ares).

Usually the tv2 output is either full frame 4:3 or the 16:9 letterbox but still confined to the 4:3 output and can be switched by the aspect function button on the remote. The tv itself should control whether is is shown as 4:3 or 16:9 by it's own setting. Hope this makes sense.

The information that GARYS is giving you is correct.

I actually joined this forum to ask a question about the same issue! I still have some questions. We have a 1080p HD TV in the main room (TV1) and everything is fine with the signal. It converts to 16:9 just fine, HD and everything. Up until yesterday our TV2 was a crappy old analogue. We just purchased a 26" Toshiba 720p for the bedroom. I'm getting a 480i signal in the bedroom and it is not 16:9. My TV for whatever reason won't even let me change it to native, etc. Is this an issue with the actual cord leading to me TV (do you need a special HD Cord?) or am I doing something wrong.
Thanks in advance.

The Dish receiver's output to the second tv is 480i. Tv2 is output as sd and not HD even if you are watching an HD channel.

Rats! Is this because of a limitation of the receiver, is there one out there that can get HD in a TV2? I'm bummed not to be able to watch Letterman in HD while I'm falling asleep!
Thank you for your help! You are so informative!

If you can run the other HD output (HDMI or component) from the receiver to your bedroom, it will give you HD on both tv's but both tv's will have to view the same program.

Ugh Bleh! I guess I'll live with SD TV in the bedroom. I hope this changes in the future!
Thanks again for your advice!

I'm not sure how much of a differce you'll see with a 26" 19:9 set but it does suck. My biggest problem is that part of your TV will never get used. If you ever do use that set with an HD signal it's likely that you'll notice to difference if enough time has past.

For LCD screens (probably what a 26 inch is) there is little or no chance of "burn in".

I would have thought LCD wouldn't have a problem with it but here at work we have 17" LCD monitors that usually default to a sign in screen. After only a few months they all show signs of damage. A 26" HDTV shouldn't be too pricey but I'm looking in the 42" to 46" size. I've even thought about a Panny plasma.
