PPV can be watched at the start time you select. On Demand must download over night before it can be viewed.

Pay-Per-View is realtime broadcast from Dish through satellite to your receiver. It is listed on specific channels and scheduled like regular programming.

On Demand is downloaded in background and saved on your HDD for you to play whenever you wish. It is listed on pseudo channels in the guide and you can play it anytime. It is actually more like your recordings than any kind of satellite programming.

Not to mention the on demand stuff is available in 1080p instead of just the 1080i like regular programming.

This would seemingly explain why the Dish Network HD Programming doesn't seem at all impressive compared to the normal Dish Net. prograamming on my new LG Opus
42" LCD TV.
My understanding is that this TV upscales everything.

This is my first exposure to the supposed wonderful World of High Def. I have an upscling DVD player but
haven't bought a Blu Ray Player yet, so apparently I've yet to actually experience 1080p.

Thanks for your responses

Regular Dish Network programming is not necessarily 1080i, if it is supplied as 1080i, yes, but ABC, FOX , ESPN, ESPN2 and several others are 720p.

What! I got me a VOD movie a month ago just to check it out and it was available right away and was good for 24hrs.

Where I live the cable-company only offers on-demand in SD.

Mine says "available in 2 hours."

it's not really "on demand" if I have to wait.

I'd say /fail.
