I feel so lucky!!

Man, I hit the jackpot yesterday! or at least it feels like I did!

I bought a lcd 40 inch 6 months back, and I liked the tv, but even with a 8ms that is supposed to allow up to 125 frames per second blur-free, there was a fair amount of blurring and it was frustrating to play games with, which is the main use of the tv.

I recently made a post on this forum asking if a Plasma tv was better with motion cause I read it was as good as a CRT with motion, so I slowly started saving up $2700(I am just 19)to get a great 1080p Plasma with the best picture and features you can get, no since it being cheap.

But yesterday, as I was browsing through a donations shop as I usually do, they had a 32" CRT tv for just 125$! I checked it out, it had a component hookup in the back so I figured it was somewhat new for a CRT, not something from 1950 or whenever those first old RF tv's first came out :p

I knew it was a risk considering it was used, but I just hoped for the best since I figured it would be a great tv to replace my 20" CRT while I saved up for the 42" Plasma I wanted. So I get it home(Oh god it was heavy, with help I barely was able to lift it and made my hand very sore cause the base was so sharp!) and it turns out.....................GREAT!!!!!! I had no idea a 32" CRT would look nearly as big as a 40" widescreen, but the difference was not even noticeable really! Since the size was so close, I figured it was senseless to blow 2700 on the 42" I was saving for, so for just $125 I got a TOTALLY AWESOME 32" CRT, saving myself a good $2600 I could save towards something else and as expected of course it has NO freaking ridiculous stupid bullcrap annoying stupid terrible useless motion blur!!! I was SO EXCITED!! I can finally play my games on a big screen tv with no blur!!! FREAKING AWESOME!:D

It had an excellent picture, and the old owner obviously took very good care of it considering it came with the manual, and of course the controller. The tv was fine, no scratches on the frame or glass, or anything wrong anywhere! Which is great, it should last a very long time!

Seriously, finding this thing was like a christmas miracle gift for me, $125 for a 32" CRT? I am guessing you'd be lucky to buy one online for less than 300 and shipping. Of course this is assuming it doesn't break down anytime soon.. but I highly doubt that! LCD SUCKS! CRT RULES!!

congrats. But, this is a high def forum haha. I think you would have been happier playing games on a 1080p plasma. Unless of course, you are playing a N64(which is awesome).

Did anyone ever try one of those Samsung HD CRT TVs? (Full 1080p) I saw em at Cash Generator (scabby UK pawn shop) for £450 a couple of years ago but nothing since.

They looked quite good and were "slim" and designed to look like LCD/Plasma TVs.

Btw, LCD has improved a lot recently and you can get blur free LCD displays now.

Hey Mike, i am still using one of them now. Its a samsung 32" slimfit HD CRT. I bought it a couple of years ago from Currys. It supports 720P/1080i. The SD PQ is very good but the HD PQ is not as good as on a LCD set. I have my BD player hooked up to it and it plays pretty well apart from you can get quite a lot of judder. Heres a pic of it,

Well if you had spent that all cash on a new LCD you wouldn't have been disappointed... They make them with pretty fast refresh rates so the blur isn't too much of an issue.. my 40" sony LCD basically seems to be the best tool possible for owning people in Halo 3 or getting owned..hehe..

but congrats..you showed restraint with your purchase...Something a lot of up home theater people have difficulty doing.. congrats on your CRT...You should have a lot of happy gaming memories with that set for sure.. the only thing CRT's tend to do is get broken or darker over time.. my last JVC CRT had gotten so dark you could hardly game on it..I had to keep the brightness turned all the way up..and could still hardly see it.. also the component hook ups on the back had become troublesome.. That's when I decided on getting a new LCD..

When you replace it..please try to dispose of it properly.. I keep seeing stuff on TV about how much lead has leaked into the environment from people chucking their old CRT's....Its really the same with any kind of electronic waste though..

CRT tv;s have been made from what the 30's? seems to me they would know how to do this and very well. the newer tv;s are just that, new. So, it's gonna take a while to get it right. THay have made serious advances. BUT my sony 34" crt will not do 1080p. who cares!! This saves me from having to buy a Bloray deck, and I love my Oppo 970. I do want a bigger screen tv, $ is an issue. besides, when I do so, I suppose the sets then will be as good as the old reliable. So, enjoy the fact your games will not burn into the picture, and the black levels expected from a tv.

Well your right lead is a natural metal found outside all over the place.. but my point about lead contamination from disposing of old CRT TV's in landfills still holds up.. dispose of your electronics responsibly. We are supposed to show how we're more grateful to our land than the Chinese.. look at what they are doing, its freaking catastrophic.. We kinda learned those lessons already from all the pollution we created through the start up of the whole industrial age. Think about how bad we were in the 80's and how things are now..we still need even more environmental regulations put in place.. Like not being able to trash electronics any way your want..

well congrats on your deal .Well plasma and crt have huge viewing differences. Well which ever suits you man
