I'm using the optical out on the DVR722 to my Onkyo receiver and it works fine, but no matter how hard I push it in it won't click, is it normal?
Reason I'm asking is that when I connected the optical cable into the receiver and the 360 it clicked when pushed hard and it's secure, it won't slide out, as opposed to the DN DVR where it's not secure and the slightest pull will cause it to come out.

Are you sure that you have the plug oriented correctly? On the 30 or so I have helped setup, there has been a click upon seating the "Toslink" cable properly.

It only goes in one way doesn't it? if it's not oriented right it won't go in at all.
Mine went in and works, but it didn't click, I'll check again.

also, are you sure you removed the clear rubber piece that protects the the end of the cable?

You're right L2W, I just checked again, but this time I put a pot of pressure pushing it in and it clicked.
It was harder to make it click than any other optical cable I connected before though.

Of course, and in post #1 I said it worked fine (except it didn't click)

Glad to hear you have it snugly connected now. :D

Now you have to double check yours to make sure it clicked too.

Joe,
I had this exact same issue so you aren't alone. I added a toslink optical cable between my DVR722 and my Onkyo receiver, and the cable just wouldn't click into the DVR as expected even though it was seated properly. And, as you found, it then came out with the slightly pressure -like, say, moving the DVR back into place on the shelf!
As you found later, you really have to press in with the end of the toslink cable and it FINALLY will take. IMHO whoever provided the toslink interface to Dish for use in that box didn't quite make them to spec as I have never had this happen with my other equip (Onkyo, blu ray player, etc).
