I am a long time DN customer. Just purchased an new Samsung 40" 650 HDTV and was looking to use (for the first time) the HDMI our on my 622 DVR.
It doesn't work.
The composite cables work fine and offer a marvelous picture.
Any idea why the HDMI out does not work? I have tried multiple cables into multiple options on the Samsung.
I would prefer not to call DN as they often know less than I do.
Thanks!

This is not uncommon on 622s, the only option is to get a new one.

I believe you are talking about component cables (green, blue, red) and since they offer, for all intent and purposes, the same high quality picture, there is really no reason to change. Every one I have set up we have used component cables due to the many problems associated with the Dish ViP models and the HDMI connection.

It sounds like the HDMI issue on the 622 is widespread, requiring a replacement DVR from DN.
Does the 722 have the same problem? I want to see if I can force DN into giving me a new 722 to replace my 622.
Thanks!

It is a widespread problem with most if not all of the ViP units (blame JVC, the manufacturer). You can use the HDMI connection for a long time then all of a sudden it quits working.
As I said before using the component video connection gives the same high quality HD video so many opt to use that to avoid future HDMI connectivity issues.

I thought you could only get 1080i from component on the Dish DVRs and you needed HDMI to get 1080p.

That is correct. The only 1080p available through Dish is VOD and currently only 1 title per month. Your TV must also not only be 1080p but it must be able to handle 24fps frame rate which many TV's don't. If yours does then HDMI may be a better connection. If your TV doesn't do the 24 frame rate it will scale down to 1080i via component or HDMI which looks pretty good as it is.
Did that help?

if you have insurance they will replace a 622 only with a 622. I recently had my technician replace my defective 622 with a 722 only because the 622 was on backorder.
