Apparently Dish is launching a new satellite to improve reception in Michigan and other nearby areas.
Last night we hooked up our new VIP722 and had a lot of problems. For some reason Dish's website could not activate our receiver claiming technical difficulties. I had to call Dish tech support.
While on the phone they were finally able to activate my receiver, but there were 2 strange problems:
The technician had a lot of problems activating the receiver because it kept losing the satellite signal (that was never a problem before)
She said my smart card was part of the problem, had me remove it and told me to not put it back in.
At the end of the call the technician scheduled a service call for Monday to modify my dish for a new satellite they're launching. She said this would improve my reception and clear up any problems.
So that's the interesting news for Michigan residents and probably others living in nearby states.
I still don't know why she had us remove the smart card and never put it back in, but we haven't had any problems viewing any content.
