I've learned a lot from this site, thanks to all who contribute. Perhaps you can help me choose a TV, as I'm going to pull the pin this week on a 52" LCD. I've narrowed my choice between two Costco items; the Toshiba Regza that is RV530U and the Sharp Aquos in the SB series. Both are entry level (I need the big size, large living room) and I am limited to spending around $1500. I've read about the banding issues that some of the Sharps have, but haven't been able to find much on the Toshibas online or elsewhere. I will be mostly watching TV via Dish Network. I like the looks of both in the store, and the Sharp on display is clear, with no banding (of course). Between the two, I think the Sharp has a bit better of a picture but the banding thing worries me some (although less so with Costco's return policy).

Thanks in advance.

I think the banding issues with Sharp has been past for many a moon now... If it was ongoing, they wouldn't be one of the worlds leaders. It was a few models a couple of years ago now. I'd look at the manufacturing date on the sets and buy the one with the latest date.

Everything being equal, I'd let my eyes rule and Costco more or less evens out the playing field for service.

Good to know about the banding issue being a thing of the past. Most of the reading I did on it were in old posts, articles etc (2007), but I couldn't find much definitive evidence that it was dealt with. Thanks for your response.

I have a Toshiba Regza and believe them to have the best LCD currently available.
