My 722 is (and has since it was installed) frequently has a portion of the picture freeze up. This frozen part looks very pixelated. It stays there for a second or two and then goes back to normal. Both TVs hooked to the 722 experience this problem both on live and recorded programming. The TVs connected to my other receiver (612) do not experience this. Dish sent me a new receiver, but it also had the same problem.
Has anyone else experienced this or have an idea of what the cause could be. Dish suggested having a tech come troubleshoot, which I will schedule after the holidays.
I was wondering if this could be heat related as the receiver was quite warm when i disconnected it. The Dish rep did not think heat could be the issue.

I believe the problem is your reception or possibly your coax cable. Check out your reception in the 722's diagnostics menu.
This happens to my 722's picture, but only if it's covered in snow or during a really bad storm.

I believe that your Dish needs to be re-aimed.

Agreed, sounds like the 722 may be further electrically (longer cable or poorer cable connection) from the dish/switch than the 612 with just enough signal loss to make a difference.
Proper aiming of the dish should bring signal levels up so the difference will be irrelevant.

Dish realignment or possibly a bad LNB. Go to sys info (menu 6-1-3) and see if you have LNB drift. If so, it needs to be replaced. If not, you will need a tech out, as I can only do so much through a forum.

You should be aware that there are many heat issues with some of the newer receivers. Heat can't be ruled out, but it doesn't sound like heat symptoms.
It is likely that your signal is just a little low. A 722 needs more signal than a 612, which needs more signal than a 625, which needs more than a 522, and so on, right down the line to the lowly 301, which requires the least. If you were to switch receivers, you will be able to determine if it is the lines or the receivers.

The 722 is in the exact same location that the 612 was before I upgraded to HD. I would guess the the cable length between the 2 is still fairly close, but the 612 is probably shorter. The signals (sat 119, 110, 129) are all "green" on the system info and the status says "good". The signal strength is 66-68 for sat 119, 47-48 for sat 110, and 48-49 for sat 129. Should it move around within that range? What is and how do I check drift?

Most signals "flip-flop" one or two points, and I consider that normal. If your signal jumps or "bounces" 4 or more points, it is time to check all cable connections and replace barrel connections and the ground block.
Your signals are low for 110 and 129, but I say that not knowing where you are located.
And a 722 does need a little more signal than a 612.

As an installer I would concur with the DISH needing to be peaked for MAX signal on the 129W
