Remote not working, defective?

I had Dish installed last Thursday and had a conflict with the two receivers we have. There are two VIP 612s the remote controls were not configured right when we thought they were. I tried to reprogram it as the service rep suggested. That didn't work. Today I received the keys for the remote plugged one in tried to reprogram it and I cannot get a signal from the remote at all. Are my remote controls defective? They worked out of the box but one remote was controlling both DVR's as the signal interfered. Since then the remotes for both 612 dvr's do not work now. Has anybody else had this problem? If so did you have them send you new keys or did you request a new remote?

using the buttons on the front of the receiver, go to the system info screen (menu 6-1-3) and then press record on your remote. That might do the trick.
