Swap old 508 and 510 models for two 612's

I currently have two physical dishes outside and four receivers inside (508, 508, 510, 622). DISH is going to replace one of my 508's with a 612, and also my 510 with a 612. So, when complete, I will still have four receivers (508, 612, 612, 622).

I am not changing my TV's around or anything else. I am simply replacing two old DVR's with the two newer 612 DVR's.

DISH said that installers would need to come out for this installation because it is complicated on how the 612's neeed to be hooked up. They said it will require changes to my cabling, switch, etc.

My question is.... is it "complicated" to swap out an older DVR with a 612 model? I'm not doing any OTA stuff, no dual TV's, or anything else. I simply have one TV hooked up to each DVR.

Thanks in advance!

A tech can make sure that everything is installed properly. I have been on many service calls in which a customer thinks they can install everything themselves, and they end up screwing everything up. Not to mention if a customer attempts a job like yours, they could end up spending hours on the phone with dish. Not fun. At all.

Thanks for the response. I guess my main questions is whether the 612 model requires additional input cables as compared to the 508 and 510. My 508 and 510 both have a single RG6 cable coming from the main switch. I'm hoping that the 612 will be the same.

I just remembered, the 612 is a DPPlus receiver, and depending on how many orbitals you are hitting, you need dual cable run to it or a DPP separator. You said you have 2 dishes and HD, so you probably have a DPP44SW, which will allow the use of a single cable and a DPP separator.

Thanks again for your reply. If I could ask one more question...

I just looked and I currently have a DPP44. This device has three inputs (from my two physical satellite dishes), and four outputs. I have four DVR's so each output from the DPP44 goes to one of my DVR's.

- The first output (labeled "to power inverter") goes to my 622 DVR. I noticed that there is some type of "splitter" just before reaching my 622 which takes this one cable, splits it in two, then feeds into my two inputs on the 622.

- The other three outputs go directly into my other DVR's.

I guess I'm hoping that I won't have to run any more cables. I'm hoping that the technicians can just use one of these "splitters" for each of my new 612's that are coming. I would still have one cable coming from the DPP44, but then it would then "split" just before going into the 612, to provide the necessary two inputs.

Thanks!

You have a dpp separator, NOT a splitter. Big difference. However, with the DPP44, one cable is sufficient.
